Chinese Taipei Take Gold at IKF Korfball Asia Cup 2025 in Malaysia!

Chinese Taipei are the champions of the IKF Korfball Asia Cup 2025, wrapping up an unbeaten campaign with a dominant victory over hosts Malaysia in the Final. This highly competitive continental championship ran for six days in Selangor, Malaysia, gathering Asia’s top korfball nations for the title showdown.

The Final

The gold medal match saw Chinese Taipei defeat Malaysia to claim the Asia Cup title. After an earlier meeting in the group stage, the two finalists once again delivered a high-quality, physical contest on the biggest stage of the tournament.

The Final score line demonstrated Chinese Taipei’s powerful team effort. Four different players shared the top scoring honours for the champions, each scoring four goals: Shao-en Chiu, Fei-yi Su, and Yu-ju Wu. Qi Xun Chia led the scoring for Malaysia.

Bronze Medal Match

The battle for third place provided one of the most thrilling games of the week. Thailand and Japan fought fiercely, separated by only the narrowest of margins, with Thailand ultimately clinching an 11–10 victory. This exciting finish secured Thailand a hard-earned place on the podium.

Semi-Finals recap

The Semi-Finals paved the way for the final day. Chinese Taipei continued their excellent form, producing a commanding 22–7 win against Thailand. In the second semi-final, hosts Malaysia faced Japan in a tough, close encounter, eventually securing an 11–8 victory to book their spot in the Final in front of the enthusiastic home crowd.

Group Stage Overview

The tournament opened with a group stage split into two pools.

In Group A, Chinese Taipei and Malaysia quickly established themselves as the top two. Chinese Taipei finished the group stage undefeated (nine points), followed by Malaysia (six points). Thailand secured third place (three points), leaving Japan without a win.

Group B was topped by Hong Kong China, who also advanced without a loss (nine points). Indonesia, India, and China finished level on three points, with the head-to-head results deciding their final group positions: Indonesia (2nd), India (3rd), and China (4th).

Individual Honours

The closing ceremony celebrated individual excellence with several awards recognising top performances across several categories, including the coveted Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards.

The Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards went to Pei-yun Wu (#4) of Chinese Taipei (Female) and Qi Xun Chia (#20) of Malaysia (Male).

The top scoring titles mirrored the finals, with the Male Top Scorer award claimed by Qi Xun Chia (#20) from Malaysia (18 goals). The Female Top Scorer award went to Chika Putri Aurora (#28) of Indonesia, who finished the tournament with 21 goals.

There were also awards presented for top defender, top rebounder, and top assist:

  • Top Defender: The Female Top Defender award went to Sayuki Imanishi (#11) from Japan, while the Male Top Defender was Chen-wei Cheng (#14) of Chinese Taipei.

  • Top Rebounder: Ler Yee Low (#77) of Malaysia was named the Female Top Rebounder, and Aerawat Huawaen (#25) of Thailand took the Male Top Rebounder award.

  • Top Assist: Chinese Taipei players secured both assisting awards: Yu-chun Kao (#8) for Female Top Assist and Chia-che Chang (#16) for Male Top Assist.

Olympic Council of Asia officially recognises IKF Asia

The International Korfball Federation (IKF) and IKF Asia are delighted to announce that the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has officially recognised IKF Asia as the continental governing body for korfball, with Prof. Dr. Huang Ying-Che (TPE) serving as its President.

The decision was made unanimously by the OCA Executive Board during its meeting on 6 November 2025, marking a significant milestone for the growth of korfball across the continent and within the Olympic family.

A Milestone for Korfball in the Olympic Family

“This recognition is a huge step forward for korfball in Asia,” said Prof. Dr. Huang Ying-Che, President of IKF Asia.

“It opens doors for stronger collaboration with National Olympic Committees and provides a solid foundation for expanding our activities and visibility. I’m deeply grateful to everyone who has supported this journey.”

The OCA’s recognition reflects the steady progress of korfball’s development in Asia and highlights the growing presence of the sport in international structures.

“This is a wonderful achievement for our community,” said Gabi Kool, President of the International Korfball Federation.

“The recognition of IKF Asia by the Olympic Council of Asia strengthens our position worldwide and gives new momentum to our collective work in promoting korfball as a truly global, inclusive sport.”

IKF Asia has been extremely active in organising continental korfball competitions, including the Asia-Oceania Korfball Championship, the Asian Korfball Championship, the Korfball Asia Cup, the U21 Asia-Oceania Championship, the U19 Asia Championship and the U16 Asia Championship. Further, the discipline of beach korfball has a strong presence on the continent, and the recent awarding of the 2026 IKF World Beach Championship.

The IKF extends its warmest congratulations to IKF Asia and to all those who have contributed to achieving this important recognition, which will play a key role in the future growth of korfball across the region and beyond.

Especially, the IKF would like to thank Mr Guo Qilin, President of the Chinese Korfball Association, and Mr Song Luzeng, Chairman of the Sports Committee of the Olympic Council of Asia for their continued efforts and advice over an extended period of time.

Golden goal seals victory for Chinese Taipei at IKF U21 Asia Oceania Korfball Championship

Chinese Taipei has once again claimed the gold medal at the 2025 IKF U21 Asia Oceania Korfball Championship, triumphing over a determined New Zealand side 16–15 in a thrilling final that came down to a golden goal. 

With the score locked at 15–15 at the end of normal time, Yen-Ting Chen kept his nerve and scored a penalty in Golden Goal to claim victory for the defending champions.

Yu-Ju Wu was a standout player for the winning side, scoring five goals, while New Zealand’s Tyrell Eden matched that tally in a performance that led his team to a historic silver medal – their highest-ever finish at this level.

Malaysia win the Bronze

In the bronze medal match held earlier in the day, Malaysia secured third place with a commanding 23–15 win over Thailand. Zheng Hou Chong was a standout player in the triumph, scoring six goals and steering Malaysia to the podium.

2nd Runner-Up: Malaysia

Asia-Oceania Under-21 Championships Gets Underway in Leshan

The IKF U21 Asia-Oceania Korfball Championship 2025 gets underway in Leshan, China from 30 July to 6 August, bringing together ten teams for 8 days of intense competition.   

Organised by the Chinese Korfball Association (CKA) and IKF Asia, the event showcases emerging players across the region and offers fans a front-row seat to the sport’s future.

Malaysia Triumphs at IKF Asia Youth Championships 2025

The IKF U19/U16/U14 Asia Korfball4 Championships 2025 wrapped up in Leshan, China after five exciting days of competition between teams from China, Hong Kong China, India, Malaysia, Chinese Taipei, and Thailand.

Malaysia delivered a standout performance, taking home three gold medals and three silvers, including a landmark win over Chinese Taipei in the U19 2-Korf category. Chinese Taipei followed closely with three golds, two silvers, and one bronze. Thailand rounded out the top three with one silver and four bronze medals.

More than just a competition, the event brought together young athletes from across Asia, creating space for new friendships and cultural exchange. It’s a reminder of how sport can unite people across borders – supporting IKF Asia’s goal of promoting development and unity through sport.

Now in its fifth edition, the championships will move to an annual format, reflecting its growing importance in the Asian korfball calendar.

Thanks to the strong leadership of IKF Asia President Professor Inglish Huang, he continues to play a key role in guiding the korfball development in Asia, shaping a platform that not only celebrates athletic talent but also strengthens the future of korfball in the region.

Chinese Taipei are champions of the IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Asia) 2024!

A thrilling conclusion to the IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Asia) 2024 saw Chinese Taipei emerge victorious. After two intense days of competition between the 10 participating teams. In total 478 goals were scored across the 31 matches, showcasing the skill, speed, and teamwork of the athletes.

The Korfball Association of Thailand (KAT) hosted the event, which was also a qualifier tournament for The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China. All matches will be played at Hua Mak Indoor Stadium in Sport Authority of Thailand.

Thrilling final

In the gold medal match, Chinese Taipei faced off against Czechia in a tightly contested game. At half-time, Chinese Taipei held a narrow 6-5 lead, with Czechia pushing hard to challenge one of the pre-tournament favorites. However, in the second half, Chinese Taipei’s precision and attacking strength shone through as they pulled away to secure a decisive 14-8 victory, claiming the gold medal.

Bronze medal decider

Earlier in the day, the bronze medal match saw Poland overcome Hungary in a hard-fought battle. Poland’s solid defense and sharp shooting led them to a 9-6 win, earning them a spot on the podium.

The team of Hong Kong China got the Bronze after an exciting match versus Malaysia, which ended 21-19 in favour of the local squad.

The AKC 2024 semi-finalists are known: TPE-MAS & HKG-CHN! Three exciting last days to reveal the final champion!

The Group Phase at the IKF Asia Korfball Championship 2024 taking place in Hong Kong is close to its end, and after Friday’s matches, the teams that will play the semi-finals on Saturday were revealed: Chinese Taipei – Malaysia and Hong Kong China – China. The name of the last two finalists were the winners of Day 5 (8/nov) last two matches. Between Friday and Sunday, the fight for places 5 to 11 took also place in this 2nd final stage of the tournament.

UPDATE 10/11/2024 – Chinese Taipei wins the IKF Asia Korfball Championship 2024

At the end of Day 5, the last match for 7th place will be played next Sunday between MAC and JPN, while THA and IND will face for 5th. KOR won SGP on Saturday, and will play on the last day against INA for 9th place.

On Saturday, this KOR-SGP was followed by the 2 big semi-finals. Very exciting games that decided which teams will fight for the AKC trophy and for the bronze medal! MAS and HKG will play for Bronze, and the big final will face TPE and CHN.

This year’s excting#AKC is taking place from 4 to 10 November 2024 at Kowloon Park Sports Centre in Hong Kong, with eleven teams competing. Are the Chinese Taipei team going to raise the champion’s trophy again?
