IKF participates in the IF Forum 2025 in Lausanne

From 27 to 29 October, the International Korfball Federation was represented at the IF Forum 2025 in Lausanne by IKF President Gabi Kool and Secretary General and CEO Joana Faria.

The annual event, organised by SportAccord and held at the Olympic Museum, gathered over 400 leaders from international sports federations and organisations to discuss the future of sport in an ever-changing world.

IKF President, Gabi Kool and IKF Secretary General Joana Faria

This year’s theme, “Sport’s Future in Focus”, addressed how international federations can navigate major shifts in society, technology and governance while remaining relevant and sustainable.

The forum explored topics such as leadership and innovation, visibility and sustainability – particularly in women’s sport – and the need for federations to adapt to new business models, digital realities and social responsibilities.

For the IKF, participation in the IF Forum was an important opportunity to strengthen its international visibility, build new connections, and exchange ideas with peers from across the sports world. It also allowed the IKF to align with global trends, exploring new ways to develop korfball through digital innovation, gender equality and sustainability.

“The IF Forum is a unique platform for international federations to share insights and explore the challenges we all face in building the future of sport,”

IKF President Gabi Kool.

“Being part of these conversations helps the IKF stay connected and forward-looking.”

IKF Secretary General Joana Faria added:

“It was a valuable occasion to exchange perspectives and strengthen our relationships with other organisations. Every meeting, every discussion contributes to the growth and visibility of korfball on the international stage.”

IKF Expands, Welcoming New Associate Members

The International Korfball Federation (IKF) is pleased to announce an important milestone in its global expansion following the IKF General Meeting held in Lisbon, Portugal, on Saturday, 18 October 2025.

During the meeting, members voted to accept three new federations as Associate Members. This reflects korfball’s continued growth and widening international reach.

The IKF warmly welcomes the following new Associate Members:

  • Fédération de Korfball de la République Démocratique du Congo (COD)
  • Fédération Guinéenne de Korfball (GUI)
  • Korfball Venezuela (VEN)

“This is a great day for korfball development, expanding our reach into new territories in Africa and the Americas,” said Jorge Alves, IKF Senior Vice President and Chair of the IKF Development and Education Committee.

“Official recognition is a huge milestone for these federations, giving them a strong platform to continue growing korfball in their regions.”

The General Meeting also addressed governance and compliance matters. In accordance with the IKF Statutes, the federations representing the Philippines and Ukraine were expelled.

Immediately after, the meeting voted to approve the readmission of new national organisations under fresh leadership and management:

  • Korfball Association of the Philippines (PHI)
  • Korfball Federation of Ukraine (UKR)

These renewed federations have demonstrated a clear commitment to rebuilding and promoting korfball locally. The IKF looks forward to working closely with both to strengthen the sport’s foundation in their countries.

With these changes, the total number of IKF members has now increased to 75.

“The decisions made at this General Meeting mark an important step for the future of korfball,” said IKF President Gabi Kool.

“While we must uphold the standards of active engagement and good governance within our federations, we are encouraged and incredibly happy to see dedicated, new groups stepping up to take the lead in the Philippines and in Ukraine.

“I want to acknowledge the tremendous effort not only from the individuals and teams in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea, and Venezuela who worked diligently behind the scenes, but also from our internal IKF colleagues and committees who supported the application and validation process.

“The admission of all these nations underscores our commitment to connecting, growing, and inspiring the sport of korfball globally.”

The IKF remains dedicated to supporting all its members in promoting and developing korfball across every region of the world.

The International Korfball Federation (IKF) mourns the passing of Herman Gielen, bearer of the IKF Badge of Honour and past Vice President of the IKF, at the age of 86.

Australia Crowned 2025 IKF Oceania Korfball Champions

Australia beat New Zealand in the final and decisive third match to win the IKF Oceania Korfball Championship 2025 that took place from 19 to 21 September in Bacchus Marsh (Melbourne, Australia).

This event was hosted by the Australian Korfball Association, with the New Zealand and Australia national teams competing for this continental trophy. Three exciting days, in which the Kiwis started leading the series 0-1 after scoring a winning golden goal in the 1st match (16-17). The host team was confident that this situation could be reversed, and they showed it by winning the 2nd duel (22-15) and making the last encounter the decisive one.

This 3rd and final game was very tight during the 1st half, but in the 3rd quarter, the Australians were able to gain a comfortable advantage, increasing their scoring percentage, which allowed them to play comfortably and give no options of a comeback to its rival (18-10). In the end, 1-2 in favor of Australia that raised this 2025 Oceania trophy.

Katelyn Louise Huata-Chapman from New Zealand was the top scorer of the tournament with 12 goals, followed by her teammate Per Tonascia, with 11 goals, the same as Darian Huddleston and Jessica Phillips from Australia.
