Everything’s ready for the IKF U21 Korfball World Cup 2021

The relocated IKF U21 Korfball World Cup 2021 is ready to start this next Friday in the Czech city of Zruč nad Sázavou. After a long year and a half with no international competitions due to covid pandemic, the competition calendar starts this weekend with the IKF U21 KWC 2021.

The Czech Korfball Association offered to organise the event after the impossibility announced five weeks ago by the Fédération Korfbal France. The strict corona regulations and the related high organisational costs in France made it impossible for this event to continue in that country as planned.

Despite the short time left, the Czech Korfball Association has been able to organise, once again, a great event that will show six* U21 national squads competing from 24 to 26 September for this first trophy of the current international korfball season.

(*) UPDATE 23/9/2021, 15:00 h – Five teams will be finally participating in this 1st international korfball event after the start of the pandemic. This will unfortunately be without Slovakia. Due to a positive corona test within the team and the risk of further spreading the virus, the team is not able to participate. This despite of all the effort and preparation done by all players and technical staff during these last months. We hope we will welcome them very soon in another tournament. The final match schedule will be known at the end of the day after the team managers meeting.

(**) UPDATE 23/9/2021, 21:00 h – The final match schedule has been published.

The IKF has been working very hard during the last months to have an accurate IKF COVID-19 protocol which will allow a safe interaction between all participants in the next international events to come. All visitors and spectators will also be required to follow the safety and prevention protocols against covid-19 approved by local authorities.

Fans around the world will be able to watch and enjoy all games through the IKF live streamings available on www.worldkorfball.sport and youtube.com/ikfchannel, with all the statistics, results, top scorers and rankings. An official website managed by the LOC is also available on zruc21.korfbal.cz, with more detailed information about the event.

The participants, match schedule* and event rules can be found on korfball.sport/?p=25048.

Morocco to host first World Beach Korfball Championship 2021

Tournament update (07/04/2021) – The IKF World Beach Korfball Championship 2021, scheduled from 30 – 31 July has been postponed. The current corona situation is too unclear to continue with the preparations for the event in July. The IKF EXCO has set the new dates of this event on 10 – 11 September 2021. The location will remain Nador, Morocco. The IKF EXCO is grateful for the flexibility of the host, the Association Marocaine de Korfball, and hopes to welcome all teams on the beautiful beaches of Nador in September. A final decision on the event will be taken in the first week of June.

The IKF is extremely happy to announce that the first ‘IKF World Beach Korfball Championship’ will be held this summer in Nador, Morocco. The event will take place on 30th and 31st July 2021, pending a controlled Corona-19 situation. Subscription is open to all countries around the world.

The successful continental Beach World Cup events in Europe and Asia over the last few years have demonstrated that there is a real appetite amongst the nations for Beach Korfball. The IKF is now delighted to extend the format to the global stage by organising a World Championship for the first time. In a close bidding race with the Royal Dutch Korfball Association (KNKV), who as always presented a very tempting bid, the IKF Council decided to grant this prestigious event to the Moroccan Association for Korfball (MAK).

Jan Fransoo (IKF President): “As well as the beautiful Summer weather, the excellent facilities, and professional organisation, the positive impact that our mixed-gender sport has in Moroccan society has been particularly key in our decision to award the organisation of the first World Beach Korfball Championship to the city of Nador in Morocco. We are looking forward to working closely with the organisers in making this a great event with a positive impact.”

The award of this event comes months after an agreement that the Moroccan Association for Korfball and the Mediterranean Youth Association have made with the Ministry of National Education to develop korfball in schools. Younes Cherfaoui (MAK president): “We are very proud to be able to organise the IKF World Beach Korfball Championship and to present the beautiful city of Nador to the korfball world. The event comes at the perfect moment to showcase korfball and really use it as an accelerator for the further development of korfball within Morocco.”

IKF European Korfball Tour – update November

It is with great regret that the IKF EXCO has decided to cancel the IKF European Korfball Tour (EKT) Finals 2021 in February. This following the earlier decision to cancel the IKF EKT Challenger planned for January 2021.

In close alignment with the appointed host of the event, the Royal Dutch Korfball Association (KNKV), the IKF has come to the conclusion that it is no longer sensible to continue with the preparations for the IKF EKT-Finals 2021 in The Netherlands. Looking at the current corona situation within Europe and the expectations for the months to come, it is not realistic to believe that things will improve in such a way that it is possible to successfully and safely organise the event in February.

The IKF likes to express it’s gratitude towards the KNKV for their collaboration and efforts over the last months to properly prepare the EKT-Finals in The Netherlands.

Despite of this unfortunate announcement the IKF has good hope that during the year of 2021 things will normalise and European club competitions can and will take place in 2022. You can expect more information about the European club competitions for 2021 in the first quarter of the next year.

Qualification criteria The World Games 2021 known

The IKF World Korfball Championship (WKC) 2019 in Durban, South Africa, held from 1 – 10 August 2019, will be used as a qualification tournament for The World Games (TWG) 2021 in Birmingham, United States of America.

The framework aims to have four continents present at the IWGA TWG 2021 korfball tournament. To make this happen, participants from four continents should finish in the top 11 at the IKF WKC 2019.

The final ranking at the IKF WKC 2019 decides which teams qualify for the IWGA TWG 2021, taking into consideration the following criteria.

  • If the top 8 consists of participants of at least four different continents, the top 8 qualifies;
  • If the top 8 consists of participants of three continents and the first representative of a fourth continent is ranked in the top 11, this representative qualifies together with the top 7;
  • If the top 8 consists of participants of three continents and there is no representative of a fourth continent in the top 11, the top 8 qualifies;
  • If the top 8 consists of participants of two continents and the first representative(s) of a third and/or fourth continent is/are ranked in the top 11, the representative(s) and the top 7 or top 6 qualify;
  • If the top 8 consists of participants of two continents and there are no representatives of a third and/or fourth continent ranked in the top 11, the top 8 qualifies and only two continents will be present at the TWG 2021;
  • If the top 8 consists of participants of one continent and the first representative(s) of a second, third and/or fourth continent is/are ranked in the top 11, the representative(s) and the top 7, top 6 or top 5 qualify;
  • If the top 8 consists of participants of one continent and there are no representatives of a second, third and/or fourth continent ranked in the top 11, the top 8 qualifies and only one continent will be present at the TWG 2021.
