Join Our New Gender Equality & Inclusion Committee!

Are you passionate about building a world where every individual, regardless of their gender, enjoys equal opportunities, respect, and representation?

Do you believe in the power of sport to drive positive change and promote inclusivity?

The IKF is seeking dedicated volunteers to join our Gender Equality & Inclusion Committee.

At IKF, we fully support the principle of gender equality on and off the pitch. Korfball, by design, is gender balanced and equal, and we vigorously advocate for this principle, demonstrating that equal collaboration can indeed create a brighter future for all. Our vision extends beyond the boundaries of sports; we aspire for people worldwide to personally experience the values of gender equality through korfball, at every level and in every function.

The IKF’s commitment to gender equality and inclusion is embedded in our new strategy, announced at the IKF Korfball Congress in October 2023 in Taipei. Now, we are seeking volunteers to help operationalise this vision and implement it within our organisation and sport. Our focus areas include:

1. Gender Equality:
– Establishing partnerships with leading organisations focused on gender equality.
– Harnessing IKF events to drive the gender equality agenda and supporting the IKF Events Committee in doing so.

2. Inclusion:
– Assisting National Organisations in implementing korfball for special needs.
– Supporting National Organisations in adopting inclusive volunteer policies during events.

As a committee member, you will play a vital role in supporting the IKF in defining the Gender Equality & Inclusion plans and facilitating their implementation within the unique context of our sport.

We are looking for volunteers who:
– Are passionate about gender equality and inclusion.
– Are culturally sensitive and embrace diversity.
– Bring a positive and enthusiastic attitude to their work.

If you are eager to promote Gender Equality and Inclusion through korfball globally, if you have innovative ideas to share, and if you’re ready to be part of a new team, we want to hear from you.

You can find all the details regarding this open call HERE.

Please apply via this FORM.

IKF Announces Committee Restructuring Aligned with Strategic Vision

The International Korfball Federation (IKF) is happy to announce significant changes in its committee structure, accompanied by key appointments for the upcoming term. The IKF Executive Committee has orchestrated a comprehensive realignment of committees, aligning them with the organisation’s new portfolios and strategic direction as delineated in the Strategy Plan presented at the IKF World Congress in October 2023.

This restructuring initiative aims to optimise the effectiveness of each committee, foster collaboration, and ensure alignment with the IKF’s evolving objectives. Under the guidance of CEO Joana Faria, committee members will play a crucial role in driving the IKF’s mission forward, supported by their professionalism and dedication.

Despite their voluntary status, these committee members demonstrate remarkable commitment to the IKF and the tasks inherent to their roles. Their unwavering dedication exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism that is fundamental to the IKF community’s success.

While some committee positions have been filled through internal appointments, the IKF is pleased to announce forthcoming opportunities for individuals to join specific committees. Details regarding these vacancies will be available online shortly.

As the IKF continues to pursue its mission of promoting and developing korfball worldwide, stay tuned for further updates on the progress driven by the collaborative efforts across its restructured committees.

During the IKF World Korfball Championship new members of the IKF Athletes Committee will be elected. The task of the IKF Athletes Committee is to give advice, both requested and unrequested, to the IKF Council regarding all matters that it deems appropriate.

The IKF Council will propose to the General meeting to change the IKF Statutes to increase the number of members in the Athletes Committee to five, and allow for the inclusion of the Athletes Committee chair in the IKF Council with a voting right. This is in line with common practice in the Olympic Movement. This needs to be formally approved by the General Meeting to be instated with immediate effect on October 28.

Elections will be held during the IKF World Korfball Championship 2023, on Sunday 22 October 2023 at the FULLON Hotel Taipei East, Chinese Taipei. Athletes are eligible if they have played in any of the official qualifying events for the IKF World Korfball Championship 2023, or/and are participating in the IKF World Korfball Championship 2023.

The new IKF Athlete’s Committee should:

  • Consist of five members;
  • Have at least two members of each gender;
  • Have members that represent at least three of the IKF’s regions (America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Oceania);
  • Have the chair as a voting member of the IKF Council;
  • Report directly to the IKF President;
  • Receive a small budget from the IKF for operating expenses, but will not meet in person.

The elected athletes will hold office until the IKF World Korfball Championship 2027.

The elections will take place according to the following procedures;

  1. Each of the (maximum) 336 athletes that participate at the IKF World Korfball Championship 2023 has the opportunity to cast one vote;
  2. The two female athletes with the highest number of votes shall be a member of the IKF Athletes Committee;
  3. The two male athletes with the highest number of votes shall be a member of the IKF Athletes Committee;
  4. If the athletes mentioned under 2 and 3 are all from the same region, the one with the least votes will not become a member of the committee and will be replaced by the person of the same gender receiving the highest number of votes from any of the other four regions. Unless there are no candidates from at least three regions.
  5. If the athletes mentioned under 2, 3 and 4 are from three different regions, then the person receiving the highest number of votes from any of the other three regions shall be a member of the IKF Athletes Committee;
  6. If the athletes mentioned under 2, 3 and 4 are from three different regions, then the person receiving the next highest number of votes shall be a member of the IKF Athletes Committee.

Nominations

Any of the athletes that are eligible can be nominated as a candidate. The nomination can be done by the National Organisation, with the explicit consent of the athlete involved, or by the athlete him/herself, by filling out the nomination form and sending it by email to the IKF Office (office@ikf.org) no later than October 16, 2023. The nomination form is available for National Federations by request to the IKF Office.

Each National Organisation may nominate at most one male and one female candidate for the election. Should more candidates within a country nominate themselves, then the National Organisation is responsible for organising an election among the athletes representing that country in the IKF WKC 2023.

In case less than two nominations have been received from a continent, the president of the respective continental confederation shall be invited to make such nominations.
