The Netherlands U21 team was crowned the World Korfball Champion 2024

The 2nd edition of the IKF U21 World Korfball Championship has its champions, the Netherlands, who proclaimed their victory after beating in the final the Belgian squad. Chinese Taipei got the Bronze by winning the Catalan team in the match for 3rd place.

Twelve teams from 4 different continents, divided into two groups in the 1st phase, competed in the city of Kemer in Türkiye from 6 to 13 July 2024 fighting for the World Championship trophy and a medal in the final podium.

A lot of very talented young players from all around the world were present at this exciting and thrilling tournament, which was magnificent organized by the Developing Sports Federation of Türkiye, in collaboration with the municipality of Kemer, and the help of dozens of local enthusiastic and committed volunteers.

Chinese Taipei wins the IKF U21 Asia-Oceania Korfball Championship 2023

The IKF U21 Asia-Oceania Korfball Championship 2023 is over after an intense and exciting week full of korfball and a great ambience, proclaiming Chinese Taipei as champions of this 2023 edition, after winning today’s decisive final match against Malaysia by 9-27.

The Bronze medal match between China and Hong Kong China ended 24-11 in favour of China, who leaded the match from the beginning until the end, despite efforts of HKG that kept playing looking for a comeback.

We witnessed an exhilarating display of talent and sportsmanship as the IKF U21 Asia-Oceania Korfball Championship 2023  in Shah Alam, Malaysia. This prestigious tournament showcased the best young korfball players from across the region, and it was a historic occasion for Malaysia as they hosted their first ever international Korfball event.
 
Nine teams from Asia and Oceania participated in this thrilling competition, making it a true celebration of the sport’s global reach. Athletes from Chinese Taipei, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong China, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Thailand, and India showcased their skills, determination, and teamwork throughout the championship.
 
The closing ceremony was graced by the presence of esteemed guests, including IKF Asia President Prof. Inglish Huang, Mr. Tim Miller, President of IKF Oceania, and IKF Exco Member, Mr. Jorge Alves. Their attendance at the event highlighted the significance and recognition of the tournament on an international level.
 
Moreover, Ms. Daphne Lau Wai Fun, the President of the Malaysia Korfball Association, played a pivotal role in organizing this grand event. Her dedication and commitment to the sport were instrumental in ensuring the success of the championship. Her presence during the prize distribution ceremony added a sense of pride and accomplishment to the occasion.
Chinese Taipei emerged as the champions, displaying their mastery of the game with a resounding victory in the final match against Malaysia. The scoreline of 27-9 reflected their exceptional skills, teamwork, and strategic prowess. Their achievement marked a successful defense of their title and solidified their position as one of the dominant forces in the world of korfball.
However, it was Malaysia who created history by making it to the final for the first time. Their remarkable journey saw them defeat previous time finalists (2019), China, in a thrilling semifinal match. The Malaysian team’s performance demonstrated their rapid growth, determination, and resilience as they continue to make their mark on the international korfball stage.
China secured the third position in the tournament by defeating Hong Kong China with a commendable score of 24-11. Their consistent performance and expertise in the game were on full display, showcasing their status among the top teams in the region.
 
The Malaysia Korfball Association deserves heartfelt congratulations for their remarkable efforts in organizing this grand event. Their dedication and hard work have undoubtedly contributed to the growth and popularity of korfball in the region.
 
As the IKF U21 Asia-Oceania Korfball Championship 2023 comes to a close, we extend our congratulations to Chinese Taipei for their well-deserved victory, as well as to Malaysia for their exceptional performance and successful hosting of this memorable event. The Malaysian city of Shah Alam in Selangor is hosting from 8 to 13 August the IKF U21 Asia-Oceania Korfball Championship 2023. The Netherlands retain their crown as champions of the IKF U21 European Korfball Championship 2023

The Netherlands repeats as European U21 korfball champion after an exciting final game against the Belgian team, who managed to compete until the last seconds of the final match in this exciting IKF U21 European Korfball Championship 2023 played from 11 to 15 July in the Czech city of Kolín.
 
The spectators were on the edge of their seats as both teams showcased their skills in a memorable game. A 0-6 partial score at the end of the 3rd quarter put the confident Dutch team against the ropes, as they entered the final quarter with just a 1-point lead (13-12). The thrilling last quarter was dominated by the Dutch throughout, but they had to work hard as the Belgians never gave up and their shooting accuracy remained constant. In the end, the 18-15 on the scoreboard crowned the Netherlands as the 2023 champions, with the Belgian team taking home the silver medal.
 
The other match of the final day was going to decide who got the bronze medal, The Czech team played a great game against a resilient Germany in a magnificent match filled with remarkable plays, intense moments, and plenty of excitement. The final score of 18-11 secured a well-deserved bronze medal for the Czechs. In the final ranking, Catalonia ended in 4th place with 1 win and 3 losses, and Germany finished 5th.

The Netherlands beats Belgium 18-17 and becomes new U21 European champion

This last IKF U21 European Korfball Championship 2022 will be remembered by all fans after an intense and exciting 3-day tournament in the Catalan city of Terrassa.

The competition format with only 6 teams allowed all squads to play between all them in a unique league. And after day 1 it was clear that the Netherlands and Belgium will be the ones to fight for gold, but the level of both squads was really close and that fact guaranteed an exciting and tight final, as it was in the end. One last goal with 45″ left was decisive to proclaim the Dutch team the new U21 European korfball champion.

The battle for 3rd place was also one of the best attractions of the tournament, with 4 other nationals teams competing very closely and delivering intense, tight and exciting matches. A great spectacle for all korfball fans that attended Can Jofresa’s Sport Complex everyday, and for all those watching the live streams through www.worldkorfball.sport annd youtube.com/ikfchannel.

Catalonia was the final winner of this particular fight for the Bronze medal, after beating Portugal at the end of day 2 by 9-8, and be able to win all their matches, except those against BEL and NED, including the last one on day 3 vs Hungary (15-9). A perfect ending for an extraordinary and historical tournament for the Catalans.

This result forced Germany and Portugal to play on day 3 a decisive final match for 4th place: another great and tight game (16-16) decided by penalties in favour of the Portuguese squad after an exciting golden goal period with no scoring..

The IKF wants to thank all volunteers, teams and organisers for their huge efforts, making this tournament a great and successful event. Korfball is more alive than ever!

This was a long-waited edition due to the pandemic circumstances and restrictions during the last years, not allowing to follow the regular international competitions schedule.

Belgium, Portugal, Hungary, Germany, The Netherlands and Catalonia were playing a unique round that allowed all teams to play against each other to decide this year’s champion. The next generation of korfball starts were in Terrassa to show their best!

Follow live the IKF U21 European Championship 2022

The Catalan city of Terrassa is hosting from 29 September until 1 October 2022 the IKF U21 European Korfball Championship 2022. The first days of competion were a total success, with teams and fans enjoying the back to normal competitions with no restrictions.

DAY 3 UPDATED RESULTS & FINAL RANKING:

1st place (Gold medal): Netherlands
2nd place (Silver medal): Belgium
3rd place (Bronze medal): Catalonia
4th place: Portugal
5th place: Germany
6th place: Hungary

DAY 2 UPDATED RESULTS & RANKING SO FAR:

After these last results, the Catalan squad ends in 3r place and the game vs Hungary tomorrow at 17:15h will be irrelevant for the ranking. On the other hand, Portugal and Germany will play earlier at 16:00h for the 4th place. And finally, the Netherlands and Belgium will play at 18:30h “The Final”, to decide which of these strongest two teams becomes the 2022 U21 European korfball champion.

DAY 1 RESULTS:

This has been a long-waited edition due to the pandemic circumstances and restrictions during the last years, not allowing to follow the regular international competitions schedule.

Belgium, Portugal, Hungary, Germany, The Netherlands and Catalonia are playing a unique round that will allow all teams to play against each other to decide this year’s champion. The next generation of korfball starts are here to show their best!

The Catalan Korfball Federation is the organiser of this event in collaboration with the IKF and Terrassa’s town hall, and all games will be played at Can Jofresa Sports Complex. You can visit the official website of the tournament (u21ekc.korfbal.cat) to find all the updated information about this event, as well as all the other activities and events planned to enjoy an intense and exciting 3-day korfbal championship.
