Philippines, late addition to the tournament replacing China, took on India, the newbies showing plenty of heart against an opponent back at this level for the first time since 2011. Match Report (by Rob Smith)

England opened their tournament against India. With seven players making their senior debut for England, and the full squad gaining some court time, coach Rob Williams will be satisfied with a solid team performance where the goals were shared around. After a comfortable victory against Philippines yesterday, India’s return to the WKC stalled slightly in this match, though unless there is a serious upset tomorrow, they still stand to progress to the tournament’s higher rankings. For India, Sharma Vishal top scored with three, adding to the five he scored yesterday to put himself in pole position, at this early stage, for tournament top scorer. Final score: 26-10 to England.

Match Report (by Rob Smith)

After posing India some challenges on Friday, followed by a rest day yesterday, Phillipines entered into for their first ever match against European competition today when they met England. This was a step too far for the gallant team that was confirmed in the tournament at late notice, with minimal preparation, and only brief korfball experience. England’s mix of international experience and fresh talent was not to be denied, with all starting players featuring on the scoreboard including Hannah Bealey who top scored with seven, including several running in shots to take advantage of the defensive frailty of the Philippines, who nevertheless can take several lessons from this match and have the youth and enthusiasm to put these to good use later in the tournament. Final score 30-2 to England.
