Match Report (by Rob Smith)

Czech Republic met the challenge of Thailand, the day’s fourth and final WKC debutant. Starting with purpose, Thailand showed the promise that development in South East Asian korfball offers the sport, though once the Europeans found their rhythm, the newbies had no answer, failing to score in the final 25 minutes. An ankle injury to Klara Novakova who fell awkwardly attempting a running in shot forcing her withdrawal from the match, will not help the Czech campaign.

Match Report (by Rob Smith)

While their South East Asian neighbour was taking on far more experienced European opposition in one hall, at the same time fellow newcomer Thailand was up against a similar challenge in the other hall, against the dynamic pizazz of Catalonia. This match also went to seeding and almost mirrored the scoreboard of the Hungary-Malaysia match. Catalonia efficiently put themselves efficiently out of reach, building a ten point half time advantage that stretched to a well deserved 24-7 victory.

Match Report (by Rob Smith)

Two teams that would traditionally fight for top eight placings, and have previously contested the medals, the Czech Republic and Catalonia met to determine which would top Pool H, both already assured of meeting Slovakia and the Netherlands in the next two days. Catalonia started full of their customary fighting spirit to stay ahead through most of the first half. While Czech Republic took over the lead, they did not gain ascendency until the final quarter, at which point Catalonia accepted that they would be better to save their energy for Monday and Tuesday, allowing their rival to build a much stronger lead. Young talent Jitka Pavlickova, showing what an asset she is likely to be for her team in the future, topped the scoring with five, propelling the Czech Republic to a 25-15 victory.
