Belgium secure 29–10 win over Portugal in Group B

Belgium continued their strong start to the IKF European Korfball Championship 2026, defeating Portugal 29–10 in Group B in Otrokovice.

From the opening stages the Belgians controlled the tempo and created a steady stream of scoring chances. They built a decisive advantage through sharp ball movement, strong finishing from medium range and clinical conversion of penalties. Portugal remained competitive for periods and found occasional replies, but were unable to stem the flow as Belgium maintained intensity across all four quarters.

Captain Lisa Pauwels led the scoring with five goals, while Glenn Pauwels added four. Britt Saey, Joke Van Maldeghem, Kian Amorgaste, Wout Van Elsackers and Yannick Van Gucht each scored three. The Belgian attack and defence combined effectively under coach Kevin De Waele, with useful impact from the bench.

For Portugal, Hugo Fernandes, Tiago Vasconcelos Luz, Beatriz Rosa and Júlio Duraes Ruivo each scored twice, with further goals from Catarina Frade and Catarina Edilene Gomes Correia. Despite the defeat, the Portuguese side showed spirit under coach Carla Antunes.

The result strengthens Belgium’s position in a competitive Group B that also features Hungary and Scotland. Portugal will look to bounce back in their remaining matches, while Belgium turn their attention to the next challenge as they aim for a strong overall tournament showing.
