Belgium dominate Türkiye 35–6 in Pool F opener
Belgium produced a commanding performance to defeat Türkiye 35–6 in their opening match of the second group phase, taking an early step towards a place in the semi-finals.
Lise Van Maldeghem led the scoring with six goals, while captain Lisa Pauwels added five and Arne Van Damme contributed four. Belgium’s attack was relentless, with 25 medium-range goals, three penalties, three running-ins and three free passes. Türkiye managed occasional replies, including two long-range efforts and two near shots, but were unable to contain the Belgian forwards for any sustained period.
The result gives Belgium three points in Pool F, which also includes Germany and Portugal. Türkiye remain without points from this phase and face a difficult task to climb the rankings.
Looking ahead
Both sides have one further match remaining in the second group phase. Belgium will aim to maintain their momentum and secure a top-two finish, which would advance them to the semi-finals. Türkiye must target a strong result in their remaining fixture to improve their position and avoid the matches for places 5–8.
With the top two teams from each upper pool progressing to the semi-finals and the remaining sides contesting positions 5–8, the final matches of the phase will be decisive for both teams’ championship ambitions.
