Catalonia open EKC 2026 campaign with commanding 26–9 win over Switzerland

Catalonia made a powerful statement on the opening day of the IKF European Korfball Championship 2026, defeating Switzerland 26–9 in Group A in Czechia.

From the first minute, the Catalans controlled the tempo and scoring opportunities. They struck early and repeatedly, building a decisive advantage through patient build-up play and clinical finishing, particularly from medium range. Switzerland managed occasional replies, including a free pass and some penalties, but never threatened to close the gap as Catalonia maintained intensity across the four quarters.

Julia Soriano Milián led the scoring with six goals, while Pau Segura Aparicio added five and captain Aitana Segura Aparicio contributed four. Laura Tobaruela Ruiz scored three, with further contributions from Temi Combis Julià, Laia Mulà Andrés and others. For Switzerland, Jet Bosma and Lieke Dam Wichers each scored twice.

The result gives Catalonia an ideal start in a competitive Group A that also features the Netherlands and Poland. Switzerland will look to bounce back in their remaining matches, while Catalonia will next face the Dutch as they aim to improve on their fourth-place finish at the 2024 European Championship.
