England open EKC 2026 with dominant 32–7 win over Wales

England began their IKF European Korfball Championship 2026 campaign in commanding style, defeating Wales 32–7 in Group D in Prostějov.

From the opening minutes the English side controlled the tempo and created a constant stream of scoring chances. They built a decisive advantage through sharp ball circulation, strong running-in play and clinical finishing, particularly from medium range. Wales competed with determination and found occasional replies, but were unable to stem the flow as England maintained intensity across all four quarters.

Shane Buckland led the scoring with seven goals, while Blake Palfreyman added five. Kathryn Brooks and Shannon Jones each scored four, with further contributions from Neala Brennan, Rachel Page, James Wilcox, Jonathan Potter, Joseph Bedford, Leo Comerford and Marcus Tighe (two each). The English attack and defence combined effectively under coach John Denton, with useful impact from the bench.

For Wales, captain James Wilcox and Leo Comerford scored twice each, with additional goals from Matt Cross, Annie McKay and Olivia Tyso. Despite the heavy defeat, the Welsh side showed spirit under coach Ross Carr-Taylor.

The result gives England an ideal start in Group D, which also features hosts Czechia and Ireland. Wales will look to bounce back in their remaining matches, while England turn their attention to the next challenge as they aim for a strong overall tournament showing.
