Germany open EKC 2026 with commanding 30–8 win over Slovakia

Germany began their IKF European Korfball Championship 2026 campaign in dominant fashion, defeating Slovakia 30–8 in Group C in Otrokovice.

From the opening minutes the German side controlled the tempo and created a steady stream of scoring chances. They built a decisive advantage through sharp ball circulation, strong movement and clinical finishing from a variety of ranges. Slovakia competed with determination and found occasional replies, but were unable to stem the flow as Germany maintained intensity across all four quarters.

Madeline Gust led the scoring with six goals, while Julia Strach added five. Thomas Freund scored four, with further contributions from Theo Nowak and Anna Orth (three each). The German attack and defence combined effectively under coach Wilco van den Bos, with useful impact from the bench.

For Slovakia, Vaclav Leporis scored three goals, while Zuzana Bušíková added two. Further goals came from Patrik Kocur, Oliver Ondrejec and Vit Leporis. Despite the heavy defeat, the Slovak side showed spirit under coach Hans van Hellemont.

The result gives Germany an ideal start in a competitive Group C that also features Türkiye and Serbia. Slovakia will look to bounce back in their remaining matches, while Germany turn their attention to the next challenge as they aim for a strong overall tournament showing.
