Wales claim 18-10 win over Ireland to pick up first points in Group D
Prostějov, 17 October 2026 – Wales secured an 18-10 victory over Ireland in Group D at the IKF European Korfball Championship 2026, earning their first points of the tournament after an opening-day defeat to England.
The Welsh side controlled large parts of the contest, converting five penalties and adding two free-pass goals. Kiera Wilcox top-scored with four goals, while Helen Davies and Kristopher Banham each contributed three. Ireland, who had also lost heavily to hosts Czechia on the opening day, remained competitive in spells through medium and near shots, with Alf Timney, Conor Williams, Daisy Tighe and Elizabeth Tighe all finding the basket twice.
Wales gradually extended their advantage in the second half. Despite a late Ireland response, a penalty from Helen Davies and a running-in goal from Joanne Davies in the closing stages confirmed the eight-goal margin and gave Wales a valuable three points.
The result leaves Wales level on three points with England in Group D, behind leaders Czechia. Ireland remain bottom of the pool. With one match still to play in the opening phase, both sides still have something to play for as the battle for second-phase qualification continues.
