Netherlands Build Commanding Lead Against Germany in Semi-Final
Zlín, 22 October 2026 – The Netherlands established a dominant position in their semi-final against Germany at the IKF European Korfball Championship 2026, leading 16-5 at half-time in a match that will decide one of the finalists for the title. Both sides have already automatically qualified for the IKF World Korfball Championship 2027 in the Netherlands.
Played at the Datart Sports Hall in Zlín, the Dutch side, coached by Ard Korporaal, took early control through sharp attacking play. Wobbe Ran Faber led the scoring with five goals in the first half, supported by Bo Oppe and Nikki Boerhout (three each). Germany, under Wilco van den Bos, found occasional replies through Hannah Heilmann and Johanna Treffts, but struggled to contain the Dutch medium-range shooting and free-pass efficiency.
The winner of this semi-final will advance to the championship final, while the loser will contest the bronze medal match. As two of Europe’s leading teams, both the Netherlands and Germany have already secured their places at next year’s World Championship.
Expectations for the Final Day
The Netherlands will look to carry their first-half momentum into the second period and seal a place in the final. A strong performance would reinforce their status as the clear favourites and set up a title defence against the winner of the Czechia–Belgium semi-final.
Germany will aim to mount a response in the second half and stay competitive. Regardless of the outcome, their progression to the semi-finals confirms their place among Europe’s top sides, and they will focus on securing the best possible finish before heading to the World Championship with valuable experience.
Both teams now prepare for their decisive last match of the championship in Zlín.
