Match report ✍️
Netherlands open EKC 2026 with emphatic 37–7 victory over Poland
The reigning world and European champions began their title defence in commanding fashion at the IKF European Korfball Championship 2026, defeating Poland 37–7 in Group A in Prostějov.
From the opening minutes the Dutch controlled the tempo and created a steady stream of scoring chances. They built an early advantage through sharp ball circulation, strong movement and clinical finishing, particularly from medium range. Poland showed resilience and managed occasional replies, but never threatened to stem the flow as the Netherlands maintained intensity across all four quarters.
Harjan Visscher led the scoring with six goals, while Fleur Hoek added five. Alwin Out and Danielle Boadi each scored four, with further contributions from Bo Oppe, Nikki Boerhout and Wouter Wildschut (three each). Captain Olav van Wijngaarden and the rest of the Dutch attack and defence combined effectively, supported by useful impact from the bench.
For Poland, Filip Majchrzak and Maciej Wlodarski each scored twice, with further goals from Julia Arent, Natalia Klimczyk and Tamara Siemieniuk. Despite the heavy defeat, the Polish side competed with determination under coach Klaudia Doroszuk.
The result gives the Netherlands an ideal start in a competitive Group A that also features Catalonia and Switzerland. Poland will look to bounce back in their remaining matches, while the Dutch turn their attention to their next opponents as they aim to retain their European crown.
