Poland edge Switzerland 7–5 in tight Group A contest

Poland secured a hard-fought victory at the IKF European Korfball Championship 2026, defeating Switzerland 7–5 in Group A in Prostějov.

The match was closely contested throughout, with both sides finding it difficult to create clear scoring opportunities in a low-scoring encounter. Poland gradually established a slight advantage through patient build-up and clinical finishing at key moments, including from the penalty spot and a running-in goal. Switzerland remained competitive and continued to threaten, but Poland managed the decisive phases better to claim the narrow win.

Natalia Klimczyk scored twice for Poland, with further goals from Tamara Siemieniuk, Lukasz Krzemienowski, Katarzyna Tomczyk, Kamil Nowacki and Jedrzej Masztaleruk. The Polish attack and defence combined effectively under coach Robert Williams.

For Switzerland, Laurence Gfeller scored twice, with additional goals from Rainier Gfeller, Romain Nijenhuis and Pelle Drijver. Despite the narrow defeat, the Swiss side showed determination under coach Casper Boom.

The result gives Poland an important first win in a competitive Group A that also features the Netherlands and Catalonia. Switzerland will look to bounce back in their remaining matches, while Poland turn their attention to the next challenge as they aim for a strong overall tournament showing.
