Match report ✍️

Belgium top Group B with commanding 35–9 win over Scotland

Prostějov, 18 October 2026 — Belgium closed out the first group phase of the IKF European Korfball Championship 2026 in dominant fashion, defeating Scotland 35–9 to finish top of Group B and book their place in the top-eight section of the second group phase.

The Belgians controlled the tempo from the opening minutes in Prostějov. A steady stream of medium-range shots, backed by clinical penalties and well-timed near and running-in goals, allowed them to pull clear early and maintain pressure throughout the 40 minutes. Scotland managed occasional replies, including a free pass and a couple of long shots, but never seriously threatened the Belgian rhythm.

Eline Denie and Joke van Maldeghem led the scoring for Belgium with five goals each. Britt Saey, Kian Amorgaste, Lisa van Gorp and Wannes Struyf all added four goals, underlining the depth available to coach Kevin De Waele. Scotland’s nine goals were spread across different shot types, but the overall scoring rate remained low against the Belgian defence.

The result confirms Belgium as Group B winners with a perfect three wins from three matches. They advance to the top-eight section of the second group phase. Scotland finish bottom of the group without a point and will contest the places 9–16 section.

Looking ahead to the second group phase

Belgium
With a clean sweep of Group B and a strong goal difference, Belgium enter the second group phase in excellent form. Their balanced attack and organised defence make them one of the leading contenders for a high finish. They will now face stronger opposition as they aim for a top-eight placing and a strong challenge for the medals.

Scotland
Scotland end the first phase without a win, having also lost their earlier matches in the group. Their focus now shifts to the lower half of the draw, where they will compete for places 9–16. While the results against the stronger sides were one-sided, the experience at this level will be valuable as they look to secure wins and improve their final ranking.
