Germany Close Group Phase with Convincing Win over Serbia
Germany wrapped up the first group phase in style, defeating Serbia 15-5 in their final Group C match. The result confirms Germanyβs top spot in the pool and sends them into the top-eight section of the second group phase, while Serbia head into the ranking matches for places 9 to 16.
Hannah Flessner led the German attack with five goals, supported by three from Louis Baetzen and further contributions from Hannah Heilmann, Lea Witthaus, Johanna Treffts, Simon Wolters and Thomas Freund. Serbia responded with goals from Aleksa Obradovic, Milena Ignjatijevic, Milica Bozic, Nikola Perkovic and Petar Jovanovic, but Germanyβs superior scoring variety β eight medium shots, penalties and a running-in β kept the contest firmly in their control.
Germany finish Group C with a perfect record, having already secured first place before this fixture. Serbia end the phase without a point, completing the bottom of the pool behind TΓΌrkiye and Slovakia.
Looking Ahead: Second Group Phase
As group winners, Germany advance to the upper section of the second group phase, where the eight strongest teams will compete for the highest places and a path to the medal rounds. Coach Wilco van den Bosβs side have looked well organised throughout the opening phase and will enter the next stage with confidence, aiming to challenge for a semi-final berth.
Serbia, coached by Kees Vlietstra, will contest the lower section that decides places 9β16. The experience gained against a high-quality German side should serve them well as they look to pick up positive results in the ranking matches and improve their final standing.
With Group Phase 1 now complete, both teams turn their attention to the second phase of the championship.
