Netherlands seal Group A top spot with 46–8 rout of Switzerland
Prostějov, 18 October 2026 — The Netherlands closed the first group phase of the IKF European Korfball Championship 2026 in emphatic fashion, overpowering Switzerland 46–8 to finish top of Group A and secure their place in the top-eight section of the second group phase.
The defending European and world champions were in complete control from the opening minutes in Prostějov. A relentless barrage of medium-range shooting, supported by well-timed running-in goals and clinical penalties, saw the Dutch establish a commanding lead early and never look back. By the final whistle the scoreboard read 46–8 in favour of the Netherlands, with Switzerland restricted to isolated replies.
Wobbe Ran Faber led the scoring for the Dutch with eight goals, while Wouter Wildschut (7), Danielle Boadi (6), Alwin Out (4) and Nikki Boerhout (4) all contributed heavily. The depth of the Dutch squad was evident as substitutes such as Fleur Hoek, Sabine Verhoef, Rosalie Peet and Olav van Wijngaarden also found the net. Switzerland’s goals came mainly from medium shots and penalties, but they never managed to disrupt the Dutch rhythm for long.
The result confirms the Netherlands as Group A winners with a perfect record. They advance to the top-eight section of the second group phase, where they will face the second-placed side from Group D. Switzerland finish bottom of the group without a point and will contest the places 9–16 section.
Looking ahead to the second group phase
Netherlands
With a perfect three wins from three matches and a huge goal difference, the Dutch enter the second group phase as clear favourites. Coach Ard Korporaal’s side will now face stronger opposition, but their attacking variety and defensive organisation leave them well placed to challenge for another European title and continue their preparation for the 2027 World Championship on home soil.
Switzerland
The Swiss end the first phase without a win, having also lost to Catalonia (9–26) and Poland (11–18). Their immediate focus shifts to the lower half of the draw, where they will compete for places 9–16. While the results against the top sides were heavy, the experience gained at this level will be valuable as they look to pick up wins and finish as high as possible in the final rankings.
