Wales and Slovakia contest 11th place at IKF European Korfball Championship 2026
Zlín, 23 October 2026 – Wales and Slovakia met in the placement match for 11th position at the DATART Arena in Zlín on the penultimate day of the IKF European Korfball Championship 2026.
The contest was closely fought throughout, reflecting the competitive nature of the lower placement section. At half-time Wales held a narrow 6-5 advantage, with goals shared across a variety of shot types. Key contributors in the opening period included Kiera Wilcox and Leo Comerford (two each) for Wales, while Slovakia responded through Ema Ondrejcova, Ilia Stetsenko, Monika Bogdanova, Patrik Kocur and Zuzana Hrosovska.
The final ranking will determine 11th and 12th place. With the top ten teams at the European Championship securing automatic qualification for the IKF World Korfball Championship 2027 in the Netherlands, neither Slovakia nor Wales will advance to next year’s global event from this match. Both sides nevertheless gained valuable experience across the group stages and placement matches held in Prostějov, Otrokovice and Zlín.

In the second group phase they faced Hungary, Poland and Scotland, recording competitive results that positioned them for the 9–12 placement section. After a narrow defeat to Poland, they contested the 11th-place match. Coached by Hans van Hellemont and captained by Monika Bogdanova, with consistent scoring from Ema Ondrejcova and Zuzana Bušíková, the Slovak side showed resilience and will take important development experience into future campaigns.
