NILAI, Malaysia – 13 August 2026 – Catalonia U21 produced a strong all-round performance to beat Portugal U21 20–11 in the second group stage of the IKF U21 World Korfball Championship 2026.

After a difficult start to the second group stage, Catalonia responded with a performance built on attacking variety and defensive discipline. The Catalans established control early and gradually turned their advantage into a decisive margin, restricting Portugal to just 11 goals. The result moves Catalonia to six points in Pool F, level with Belgium at the top of the group.

Catalonia’s success came from their ability to maintain pressure in both divisions. Rather than relying on one scoring outlet, they consistently created opportunities through movement around the post and quick changes of direction, forcing Portugal’s defence to work throughout the match.

Portugal, who had entered the second stage with six points after an impressive group phase, struggled to reproduce their earlier attacking efficiency. Their 11-goal total was not enough to withstand Catalonia’s sustained pressure, although their effort remained evident until the final whistle.

The victory is particularly valuable for Catalonia after they opened the championship with a 24–6 win over Japan and subsequently progressed into the top-eight pool. Their second-stage campaign now has renewed momentum, with the Catalans firmly in contention for a place in the knockout phase.
