New Zealand claim important win over Hong Kong China

NILAI, Malaysia – 10 August 2026 – New Zealand U21 secured an important 22–10 victory over Hong Kong China U21 on Monday morning, strengthening their position in Group A of the IKF U21 World Korfball Championship 2026.

New Zealand came into the match with one win and one defeat, having beaten India before facing a strong Netherlands side. Hong Kong China had also opened their campaign with a convincing victory over India, but were looking to bounce back from their defeat against the Dutch.

The New Zealanders produced a disciplined and effective performance to take control of the contest. Their attacking organisation and ability to convert opportunities consistently allowed them to build a decisive advantage, while their defensive work restricted Hong Kong China to 10 goals.

For Hong Kong China, the result means their group-stage campaign remains finely balanced. They had already shown their attacking potential with 32 goals against India, but found it more difficult to break down a well-organised New Zealand defence.

The 22–10 result moves New Zealand onto three points, level with Hong Kong China, with the final Group A matches set to determine the teams’ positions heading into the next stage. The Netherlands currently lead the group with six points, while India remain without a point.

With the competition still wide open behind the Netherlands, both New Zealand and Hong Kong China will have plenty to play for as the group phase reaches its decisive stages.
