NILAI, Malaysia – 15 August 2026 – Türkiye secured ninth place at the IKF U21 World Korfball Championship 2026 with a convincing 16–11 victory over hosts Malaysia in the final classification match of Day 8.

Playing in front of a home crowd, Malaysia competed with determination and showed the same fighting spirit that had characterised their campaign. However, Türkiye gradually established control of the contest, combining patient attacking play with stronger defensive pressure to create the decisive advantage.

The five-goal margin reflected Türkiye’s greater consistency across the match. Having already impressed during the group phase with wins over Germany and Australia, and later defeating Thailand 23–13 in the cross-finals, Türkiye maintained their momentum when the tournament moved into the classification rounds. Their disciplined approach and ability to manage the game under pressure ultimately earned them a top-ten finish.

For Malaysia, the result marked the end of an encouraging campaign on home soil. The hosts produced several strong performances during the championship, including an 18–13 victory over Thailand and a dramatic 14–15 Golden Goal defeat against China. Their 11th-place finish does not fully reflect the progress and competitiveness they demonstrated throughout the tournament.

Türkiye therefore finish 9th, while Malaysia take 10th place, bringing an entertaining Day 8 to a close in Nilai. With the classification matches now complete, attention turns to the final day, when the positions from fifth through to the World Championship title will be decided.
