New Zealand produced a commanding response on day two of the IKF U21 World Korfball Championship 2026, defeating India 20–2 in the opening match of Sunday’s programme in Nilai.

After suffering a heavy 45–7 defeat against the Netherlands on the opening day, the New Zealanders showed a very different face against India. They controlled the match from the outset, combining disciplined defence with much greater attacking efficiency to build a decisive advantage.

India, who had also lost their opening Pool A match against Hong Kong China, struggled to find a way through New Zealand’s defensive organisation. Their two goals were their only reward from a difficult attacking performance, as New Zealand consistently denied clear opportunities and maintained control of the contest.

The result gives New Zealand an important boost in Pool A and, perhaps more significantly, demonstrates their ability to respond immediately after a difficult opening day. For India, the challenge now will be to regroup quickly ahead of their next pool match.

With the second group phase still to come, every result carries weight. New Zealand’s emphatic victory puts their campaign back on track, while India will be looking to turn their competitive experience at this championship into a stronger performance in their remaining matches.
