Thailand edge Hong Kong China to claim 11th place

Thailand finished the IKF U21 World Korfball Championship 2026 on a winning note, overcoming Hong Kong China 15–13 in a closely contested 11th/12th-place play-off in Nilai.

The two sides produced an entertaining battle for the final ranking, with neither willing to give an inch in a match that remained competitive until the closing stages. Thailand’s ability to find the crucial goals when the pressure increased ultimately proved decisive, securing an important victory after a challenging tournament.

Hong Kong China, who had finished third in Pool A with three points and had also impressed with their competitive performances in the second group phase, pushed Thailand all the way. The two-goal margin reflected the balance of the contest rather than any lack of ambition from the Hong Kong side.

For Thailand, the victory provided a fitting conclusion to a campaign that saw them reach the second group phase after finishing third in Pool C. Their 15-goal attacking performance ensured they leave Malaysia with 11th place, while Hong Kong China take 12th.

The result underlined the growing competitiveness among Asia’s leading young korfball nations, with both teams gaining valuable experience on the world stage.
