Match report

(…) Belgium make emphatic start with 41–8 win over China NILAI, Malaysia – 8 August 2026. Belgium opened their IKF U21 World Korfball Championship 2026 campaign in commanding fashion, producing a 41–8 victory over China in their Pool B opener at the N9 Arena. From the outset, Belgium imposed their rhythm on the contest, combining quick ball circulation with sustained pressure around the korf. Their ability to create repeated shooting opportunities allowed them to build a decisive advantage and, importantly, maintain it throughout the match. China continued to compete with determination, but Belgium’s defensive pressure and attacking efficiency made it difficult for their opponents to establish a consistent response. The 33-goal margin underlined the difference in experience and execution between the two sides on the opening day. For Belgium, the result is an ideal start to a demanding Pool B campaign that also includes Catalonia and Japan. The Belgians will take considerable confidence from both their scoring output and the control they demonstrated across the match. China, meanwhile, will look to regroup quickly. With two further pool matches to come, the tournament provides plenty of opportunity to respond and gain valuable experience on the world stage. The 41–8 result was one of the day’s most emphatic victories, as Belgium immediately signalled their ambitions in Malaysia. The IKF U21 World Korfball Championship brings together 16 national teams across four pools, with the competition continuing through 16 August in Nilai.
