Match report

Hong Kong China U21 made a commanding start to the second group stage of the IKF U21 World Korfball Championship 2026, defeating Australia U21 25–6 in Nilai, Malaysia.

Hong Kong China set the tone from the outset, combining sharp attacking movement with strong defensive pressure to establish a clear advantage. Their ability to create scoring opportunities from different positions kept Australia under constant pressure, while disciplined defending restricted the Australians to just six goals.

The gap continued to grow as Hong Kong China maintained their intensity after the break. Australia showed determination and managed to find the basket on several occasions, but Hong Kong China’s control of possession and more consistent finishing ensured there was little opportunity for a comeback.

The result gives Hong Kong China an important opening victory in Pool G, where they will also face Türkiye and India. Australia, meanwhile, will look to bounce back in their remaining matches and build on the experience of competing against one of Asia’s leading korfball nations.

With the tournament continuing through 16 August, Hong Kong China will now turn their attention to the next challenge as they look to progress further towards the knockout stages.
