Match report

NILAI, Malaysia – 10 August 2026 – Portugal U21 kept their IKF U21 World Korfball Championship campaign firmly on track with a composed 13–7 victory over hosts Malaysia on Monday afternoon in Nilai.

In a match between two sides looking to strengthen their position in Group C, Portugal produced the more efficient attacking performance and gradually established control. Malaysia, backed by strong home support, worked hard to stay within reach, but struggled to turn their attacking opportunities into a sustained scoring run.

Portugal’s defensive organisation proved an important factor throughout the contest. By limiting Malaysia to just seven goals, they were able to protect their advantage and avoid the momentum swings that had characterised some of the earlier matches in the group.

The result is particularly valuable for Portugal following their defeat to Chinese Taipei on Sunday. They now move to three points, level with Malaysia, while Chinese Taipei remain unbeaten at the top of the pool.

For Malaysia, the result leaves them with plenty still to play for. The hosts have already shown their competitiveness with their opening-day victory over Thailand, and their final Group C fixture will be crucial as they look to secure their place in the next phase.
