IKF Europa Shield 2013 – Day 2
In the day’s first session the aggregate scoring fell well below that of Friday, averaging under 24 per game. This was not helped by having the lowest aggregate score for a match so far this year – 15 – but also the lowest score by a team so far in this year’s event – four – by Nottingham. Only twice before, in Europa Shield history, has a team scored fewer than four. I suppose one should not be too surprised as Nottingham was one of those teams and had also scored four twice more in previous events.
The day’s opening match saw Adler Rauxel (GER) almost certainly earn their semi-final place by beating Brno (CZE) 14 – 11. Kolin (CZE) also booked their semi-final place beating a very poor performing Nottingham team 11 – 4. In the other matches Obudai (HUN) beat Cascais (POR) 14 – 12, a performance which virtually books a 5th/6th place match against the winners of Nottingham and AZS Wroclaw(POL), and CK Vallparadis (CAT) beat the Wroclaw team 18 – 11.
