Follow the IKF All-Africa Korfball Championships South & U19 2026! (18-20 Sept)

The korfball community is invited to follow two exciting continental events taking place this weekend, from 18 to 20 September 2026, in Blantyre, Malawi. The IKF All-Africa Korfball Championship (South) 2026 and the first-ever IKF U19 All-Africa Korfball Championship 2026 will run side by side, showcasing both established senior talent and the rising stars of African korfball.

Hosted by the Malawi Korfball Association together with IKF Africa, the tournaments will be held at Kamuzu University of Health Sciences. These championships highlight the continued growth of korfball across the continent, with more countries developing programmes, more young players staying involved, and stronger pathways from grassroots and school level through to senior competition.

The senior All-Africa Championship South brings national teams together in the southern region of the continent, while the new U19 event marks a historic milestone. It is the first continental under-19 championship for Africa, giving young players a clear competitive target and the chance to compete for a continental title. As Theo van der Linde, responsible for IKF development in Africa, has noted, this kind of opportunity helps turn the current growth into something long-term. IKF CEO Joana Faria has also described it as an important investment in the future of the sport on the continent.

 

18/9/2026 – The match schedule has been modified due to the late withdrawal of Zambia in both the IKF AAKC 2026 South and the IKF U19 AAKC.

African Korfball Championship to be contested at Olympic Center in Zambia

With only a few days to go, teams are finalizing the preparation for the IKF All-Africa Korfball Championship in Zambia. South Africa and Zambia will contest the first match of the event on August 6, which will conclude with the finals played on August 8. The full match schedule is available in our event listing.

For the first time ever, four teams will participate in the IKF All-African Korfball Championship. Clear favorite for the title is the reigning champion South-Africa, having won all previous events on the continent. Vice-champion Zimbabwe will however be a firm rival, having just finished an extended training camp lead by their technical director Riko Kruit. Host country Zambia and newcomer Malawi complete the pack. The four countries will contest the African title to secure a single spot in next year’s World Championship in Belgium.

This is the third edition of the event. The first edition was held in South Africa in 2006, while the 2010 edition was hosted in Zimbabwe. On both occasions, only two teams took part with South Africa crowned as champion on both occasions.

The venue for the event is the Olympic Youth Development Center in Lusaka, Zambia. The IKF is pleased for the event to take place in this venue that was funded by the International Olympic Committee.
