Call for IKF jury and referee nominations and IKF DEC Grant applications 2019

The last month of 2018 is fastly approaching, and the IKF and its member countries are currenlty working towards 2019. The IKF has approached its member countries to nominate its referees and jury members for 2019, as well as apply for a DEC Grant (D, E and F countries only).

Similar to previous years, all national federations are allowed to nominate four referees to be IKF Referees for the international events. Since the IKF wishes to especially stimulate and support female referees in their development, countries are allowed to nominate five referees if one of them is female. The performances of these referees will be evaluated by the IKF Referee Committee, after which the definite IKF Referee list for 2019 will be published on the website at the end of this year. The deadline for the nominations is the 18th of December.

2019 will mark the beginning of a new IKF jury nomination process. All countries have received a letter from the IKF Competition Committee stating that they are all allowed to nominate jury members, whereas before, the IKF CC itself nominated and approached candidates. The maximum number of nominations for each National Federation is determined by the official IKF classification. A-countries can nominate up to four jury members, B-countries three, C-countries two and D-countries & E-Countries can nominate one jury member. To make sure that a sufficient number of (qualified) IKF jury members is available for all events, the IKF CC will have the possibility to approach candidates without the interference of the National Federation. Furthermore, some IKF jury members cannot me replaced at this moment and are therefore automatically appointed for a new two year term. The deadline for these nominations is the 18th of December.

Lastly, all D, E and F countries (and New Zealand and Australia) are approached to apply for a DEC Grant to stimulate and support the development of korfball in their nation in 2019. Development projects one can think of are national competitions, school projects, coach and/or referee courses and participation in international events. The deadline for the application is the 21th of December.

The IKF hopes to receive many nominations and applications, so that it can, together with all its members, continue to develop korfball worlwide in 2019!

In case of questions about the above mentioned processes, national federations are asked to contact the IKF Office (office@ikf.org).

Upcoming events: IKF ECup 2019 and IKF EShield 2019

Since that the last IKF event of 2018 had been played a few weeks ago, it is time to look foward to the first IKF events of 2019. Traditionally, these are the IKF Europa Cup and the IKF Europa Shield, both club events.

IKF Europa Cup 2019

The IKF Europa Cup 2019 will be held in Kortrijk, Belgium, from the 10th of January up untill the 12th of January. During this event, national champions from six European countries will compete, as well as two teams who qualified during the IKF Europa Cup First Round in September 2018. The eight teams are divided into two pools:

Pool A Pool B
Kon. Boeckenberg KC (BEL) TOP/SolarCompleet (NED)
NC BENFICA (POR) KK Brno (CZE)
Trojans Korfball Club (ENG) SG Pegasus Rommerscheid 1991 e.V. (GER)
Marmara University (TUR) 1908 SZAC Budapest (HUN)

The last two editions were won by the Dutch national champion TOP/SolarCompleet, who will not be satisfied this year by anything else than a third trophy in a row. However, the other teams are determined to showcase their best play and to claim the victory at last.

IKF Europa Shield 2019

The 17th edition of the IKF Europa Shield will be organized by the Czech Korfball Association in Prostějov, from the 25th till the 27th of January. The Czech Republic is represented by two club teams during the event, and those are accompanied by club teams from Englang, Hungary, Turkey, Catalonia, Germany and Portugal. The teams are divided into two pools:

Pool A Pool B
Bec Korfball Club (ENG) Schweriner-Korfball-Club e.V. 67 (GER)
Grupo Desportivo dos Bons Dias (POR) CK Vallparadis (CAT)
KCC SOKOL České Budějovice (CZE) Szentendrei Honvéd Kinizsi SE (HUN)
Haydarpasa Lisesi Sport Club (TUR) SK RG Prostějov (CZE)

In 2018, KV Adler Rauxel won the IKF EShield. With them being absent this year, the chances of the runner-up of 2018, Bec Korfball Club, seem to have increased. The English club team has won the Eshield in 2017 and 2016 and surerly will give it their all to win this edition too.

However, since the IKF EShield has been characterized by close results in resent years, exciting  matches resulting in surprising results can be expected during this edition.

IKF World Ranking update (up to 23 October 2018)

After the last IKF official events that took place during the last months (AOKC 2018,  Beach Korfball WC 2018, ECUP 2019 1st Round and EKC 2018), the IKF World Ranking 2018 has been updated. You can check the latest ranking up to 23 October 2018 visiting the following link: ikf.org/ranking

The ranking criteria as previously published is as follows:

  • The IKF World Ranking 2018 (from 1 July 2018) is based on the revised world ranking criteria 2018, approved by the IKF EXCO in June 2018.
  • Due to the continuously development of  korfball around the globe and the establishment of  the IKF Competition Calendar 2018-2021, an update of the world ranking criteria was required.
  • For the IKF World Ranking, the total number of points of each country is determined by adding:
1 . The basic points of each country, according to overall participation and development.
    2. The points from IKF National Team Events of each country according to its ranking on IKF official events and the specific weightings, over the last four-year period.
  • Points for the ranking are mainly earned through participation in official IKF National Team Events, according to the classification of each country and the specific weightings, over the last four-year period.
  • Weights are given to different continental competitions to reflect the prestige of the tournament and to ensure that ratings are comparable across regions.
  • A year weighting is implemented to reward teams for most recent participation and performances and in order to prevent all games over the four-year period from carrying the same weight and receiving the exact same value.
  • If there is a specific qualifying round event for a main World, Continental event, the countries that do not qualify for the final round of a championship will still be given a position according to the final ranking obtained in the qualifying round event and will earn points according to it. The points earned in the qualifying rounds will only be added to the World Ranking when the points of the main event are added.
  • The official IKF World Ranking will be published:
    – immediately after each IKF World Korfball Championship, The World Games and IKF U21 World Korfball Championship;
    – immediately after the last IKF Continental Korfball Championship and IKF U21 Continental Korfball Championship, of the year;
    – in December of each year, with the addition of the Basic Points of that year.
