IKF Europa Cup 2016: Day 2
Intense, long and exciting 2nd day of competition in this 50th IKF Europa Cup 2016 in Budapest (HUNGARY).
The 1st game between BONSON FJEP (FRA) 17 and UKK WUM Warszawa (POL) 26 was broken very early by the polish team. They open a 1-6 gap in the first ten minutes that remained during the rest of the match. Leaded by Krzysztof Rubinkowski (8) and Kamil Musialinski (7), they brought the UKK WUM Warszawa to the next round and will fight tomorrow for the 9th-10th place against Szentendrei Korfbal Klub (HUN). The 7 goals scored by Ludovic Bancel (FRA) were not enough to reach the polish.
The french team will play this friday vs the 1908 SZAC KSE (HUN) for the 11th-12th place in this IKF ECup 2016, after the exciting last game played between the two hungarian teams, that was decided in favour of the SKK by a golden goal scored by Marta Szuromi (16-17). Ten incredible last minutes in which SZAC almost achieve a big comeback.
In the 2nd game played at 13:10 (CET), Brno KK (CZE) beated the catalan champion CK Assessoria Vallparadis. The czechs played a very tough game, minimizing mistakes and trying to make things very hard for the catalans. The gap after the minute 19 became definitive for the catalans, which make the impossible to reach the czechs. CK Assessoria Vallparadis will play friday and saturday for the 5th-8th place.
Top scorers: Alexis Escardibul Tejeira (6) and Jose Luis Jurado (5) from CK Vallparadis, and Jan Sedy (5) from Brno KK.
The catalans will play against the german SG Pegasus, which make all the best to make some opposition in its game vs the powerful dutch PKC/SWKGroep (44-13). The high quality of the dutch in all the aspects of the game and the high score percentage was enough to obtain the victory. The dutch will play tomorrow against Brno KK (CZE) for a place in the final (1st-4th place). Top scorers: Danny den Dunnen (7), Johannis Schot (6), Nadhie den Dunnen (5) and Suzanne Struik (5).
The game between Boeckenberg KC (BEL) and Marmara University Sport Club (TUR) 28-6 also showed how powerful are the belgian, which will play vs NC Benfica (POR), after defeating the Trojans KC (ENG) by 18-15 in the most balanced game of the tournament so far. Pedro Amaro Correia (POR) became the top scorer of the match with 5 goals, and Nick Janssens with 8 scores and Matthias Demeulder with 6, the MVP’s against Marmara University.
