Dean Woods appointed as chair of the IKF Marketing, ICT & Live Streaming Committees

The IKF is excited to share that Dean Woods has been appointed as chair of the IKF Marketing, ICT and Live Streaming Committees. In this role, Dean will coordinate the work of the three committees, thereby connecting the initiatives and work of all involved volunteers more closely.

The IKF is delighted to have Dean on board, with his extensive experience in the marketing and media in the korfball world. Gabi Kool, IKF President Nominee: ‘The IKF ExCo is extremely pleased to have Dean joining in this new exciting role. His experience with England Korfball in the PR & Communications team saw him during a ten-year tenure revolutionize the way that England Korfball portrayed itself to its members and the wider public. The high-quality professional and engaging content and branding became the benchmark of everything that England Korfball does. Dean was recognized for his achievements through IKF’s 2019 Award to England Korfball for Innovation and we look very much forward to seeing Dean lead the IKF Marketing, LiveStreaming, ICT and social media committees through similar ideas, innovation and energy to the benefit of our increasing portfolio of activities in these areas on a global level’

Dean is excited to take on the role: ”I am delighted to be appointed as the Head of Marketing, ICT and Live Streaming for the International Korfball Federation. I have been involved with korfball for almost 30 years, as a player I represented Great Britain and England, and then almost a decade as an international referee with the IKF.  I am excited to continue working with the IKF in this new role. I know I can help the IKF and the sport reach even greater heights. My previous role was part of the Media and Communications team for England Korfball, a role I held for over 10 years which provided a wealth of experience in all things marketing, media and events management. I am confident that I can use my skills, knowledge and experience to help the IKF grow the sport of korfball globally. I would like to thank all the existing IKF volunteers working in the social media, website, live stream, and photography teams for their dedication and continued efforts. I am confident that together, we can continue to ensure korfball reaches its full potential.”

Gabi Kool joins IKF Executive Committee, soon to take over leadership

The Council of the International Korfball Federation has appointed Mr Gabi Kool as a Member of the IKF Executive Committee with immediate effect. As per January 22 2022, Mr Kool has been appointed as Executive Vice President of the IKF. In this new role, he will be responsible for the committees of Digital & Marketing, Olympic Format and be leading the IKF strategy with immediate effect. Mr Kool will take over the position of chair of the IKF Executive Committee as of June 1 2022. President Jan Fransoo will remain President of the Council of the IKF until the completion of his current term in 2023, which he has announced will be his last. As of June 1 2022, he will step down from the Executive Committee.

Mr Kool, a native of the Netherlands and residing in Switzerland, has been an elite korfball athlete in the 1990s, before starting a highly successful professional career as entrepreneur and business leader in the loyalty marketing industry and he is currently leading the commercial organization of one of the world’s leading marketing services firms headquartered in Switzerland. He has lived in multiple locations across Europe and Asia, and has been named the loyalty marketing personality of the year. He brings extensive commercial, digital marketing and fan engagement experience to the IKF, that will help the world’s leading mixed-gender team sport to further develop its global and commercial potential.

Gabi Kool: ”It is my great pleasure to join the Executive Committee and support the IKF’s global ambition to grow our sport across the world and connect the korfball community of athletes, fans, national federations, sponsors and organizing committees via the latest digital strategies and solutions. Building on our heritage and great work done under Jan’s leadership over the past decades, developing new and exciting formats with appeal to also the younger generation and the Olympic movement, I am looking forward to contribute to such goals and help lead the IKF in this journey.

Jan Fransoo: “The IKF is extremely fortunate to have been able to secure the leadership, experience of Gabi to lead the global korfball community towards its next phase of development. Combined with his passion for our sport, and his ability to connect personally to our member federation, large and small alike, he is the best possible leader to help realize our ambitions.”

The Royal Netherlands Korfball Association, with the support of multiple other member associations, has announced its intention to formally nominate Mr Kool as candidate for the IKF Presidency as per the next General Meeting of the IKF, which is due to be held in October 2023 in Taipei during the IKF World Korfball Championship.

Open Call – IKF Marketing and Communication Committee

Help the world to fall in love with korfball!

Do you love korfball? Do you have skills as a communicator? Would you like to help take our sport to a new level globally?

The International Korfball Federation (IKF) is looking for volunteers to assist in our marketing and communication activities. We want to raise korfball’s worldwide profile and visibility, and if you have communication skills, ideas you want to share, and are willing to be part of an exciting new team, we want to hear from you.

You will play a part in developing and delivering a new marketing strategy, one that will help the world to fall in love with korfball. You will play a key part in generating increased attention to take our sport to where it deserves to be, greatly increasing exposure to a new generation of players and fans around the world.

Our sport has a fantastic story to tell, and with your help, we are going to bring that story to a huge new audience.

We want to develop korfball’s existing relations with our partners, establish new connections with external organisations and use those relationships, and our own worldwide community, to promote korfball globally.

We are looking for volunteers who are:

  • Skilled communicators
  • Creative marketers
  • Capable project managers
  • Competent in English, and at least one other language.
  • Keen digital marketers
  • Sensitive to different cultures and people
  • Positive, enthusiastic and hard working.

About the IKF Marketing Communication Committee (MarCom)

The IKF MarCom is charged with developing korfball’s worldwide image, including:

  • Advice on policy development and strategic planning
  • Creating, publishing and overseeing content for IKF social media channels (Twitter, Facebook and Instagram) and websites
  • Webcasting official IKF tournaments
  • Promoting and marketing IKF events and activities
  • Establishing relations with sponsors and other third parties.
