A record number of 15 countries have entered the 21st U19 Korfball World Cup 2016 in Leeuwarden (NED). This important international korfball tournament for players under 19 will be held from 24 – 27 March in Kalverdijkje sports centre and the Cammingha sports hall in Leeuwarden and is patronised by International Korfball Federation (IKF). For the very first time Dominican Republic and Hong Kong China are among competing nations.
The official drawing of the pools (according the rules and ranking of IKF) took place on 26 January. The results are as follows:
Pool A: Netherlands, Portugal, Catalonia and RTC North*;
Pool B: Chinese Taipei, Czech Republic, China and Poland;
Pool C: England, Germany, Morocco and Hong Kong China;
Pool D: Belgium, Hungary, Russia and Dominican Republic.
* RTC North play out of competition
Winners of the 2015 edition were the Netherlands, followed by Belgium.

Congratulations to Korfbal Club Barcelona from Catalonia, the new IKF Europa Shield 2016 champion. After an excellent tournament with 5 victories in 5 games, they are the new champions after beating in the final 14-13 the 2015 winners English Bec Korfball Club.
This is the 1st time they achieve this trophy, after only two previous international participations. The 1st was two years ago in IKF Europa Cup 2014 and the 2nd last year in IKF Europa Shield 2015.
An impressive and succesful course that ended with this well deserved 1st place in IKF ES 2016. Congratulations!

Final day of IKF EUROPA SHIELD 2016 in Castrop-Rauxel (Germany). Semifinals were played early in the morning, and after that, the two games for 5th to 8th places. The bronze medal game and the big final between KC Barcelona and Bec Korfball Club ended a day that crowned the catalan KC Barcelona as new Europa Shield 2016 champion, after beating 15-14 the english Bec Korfball Club in an incredible and thrilling final.
The bronze medal was achieved by the local Schweriner Korfball Club e.V. ’67 (GER), after winning 11-10 the hungarian SZAC Budapest 1908.
The closing ceremony was presided by IKF President Mr. Jan Fransoo, in which medals and individual awards were given to the winners. This ceremony ended a great and exciting 3-day tournament, that showed every day how spectacular, beatiful and thrilling korfball is.

An incredible tournament that ends this Sunday 24th with the semifinals, the games for 5th to 8th place and the big EShield 2016 final.

First day in Castrop-Rauxel (Germany), and all teams had to play their best to win. Very close games, and even with the first golden goal played. IKF Europa Shield 2016 has started!

Friday 22, Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 January 2016 the next IKF Europa Shield takes place in Castrop Rauxel in Germany.
Eight teams compete to become the 2016 IKF Europa Shield winner. The 2015 winner BEC (ENG) is one of the participants again.

The first match starts Friday 22 January 1730 PM (German time). The address of the venue is: Sportshall of Willy-Brandt-Gesamtschule (WBG), Bahnhofstrasse 160, 44575 Castrop-Rauxel, Germany
The final starts Sunday 24 January 1420 PM immediately followed (1530 PM) by the prize giving ceremony.
The IKF announced Saturday 16 January 2016 the IKF Europa Cup final round in January 2017 goes to the Netherlands. The 51th IKF ECup event days are Thursday 12 till Saturday 14 January 2017.
The 2016 national championship teams of the numbers finishing one to six in the 2016 IKF ECup qualify for the 2017 event.
The following countries have qualified: The Netherlands, Belgium, Portugal, Czech Republic, Catalonia and England.
Other countries must play first round qualifications later this year for 4 more places. The IKF ECup 2017 plays with 10 national championship teams.
