IKF Asia re-elects Huang and Cheng; korfball4 growing
In Hsinchu (Taiwan), this morning, IKF Asia held its General Meeting following yesterday’s Congress. The continental korfball confederation re-elected Professor Inglish Y.C. Huang (Chinese Taipei) as its President. Huang, who just concluded his first term, will also represent Asia on the IKF Council as Regional Vice-President for Asia. Also Secretary General Warman W.M. Cheng (Hong Kong China) was re-elected in the post of Secretary General. The remaining members of the Executive Committee are Qilin Guo (China, Senior Vice-president), Adelaide Koraag (Indonesia, Vice-president), Dilip Kumar (India, Vice-president), Michael Silbor (Philippines, member) and Yoshimitsu Toshiba (Japan, member).
At the meeting, the member countries reported on the development progress. The rapid progress of korfball4, the recently introduced 4vs4 competition format for smaller venues and outdoor, was remarkable. Chinese Taipei recently held its first national cup tournament in korfball4 and the first Asian U19 and U16 Korfball Championship will be held in Indonesia next month. Further, Macau announced it will start a city league in korfball4, and Hong Kong announced the first inter-school competition in korfball4 for elementary, middle and high schools.
India announced its intention to bid for the next Asian Championship, due to be held in 2016, while China unveiled its plans for an international beach korfball tournament on the Olympic beach in Shandong.
Korfball in Asia is vibrant and developing, while the leadership remains vigilant to address the various concerns in the area.
