Day 3 Recap: Final day

Latest News: 20/1/2024Schweriner KC (GER) wins the Satellite Final

Yildiz Technology University – CCCD Carnaxide (20-19)

The first match of Day 3 saw Yildiz University from Türkiye take on CCCD Carnaxide, with Yildiz going in search of their first victory at the Satellite Finals.

CCCD Carnaxide made the perfect start racing into a 4-0 lead before Yildiz scored thanks to a converted penalty from Ali ÇETIN.  Yildiz slowly started to claw their way back into the match. Going into the halftime break the deficit was just 2 goals (10-12).

The second half was intense! Both teams traded goals throughout until the dying seconds Serhat BARIS scored his 4th of the game to level the scores at 19-19, taking the match to golden goal extra time! When the match restarted it was Yıldız’s Ali ÇETIN who scored the winning goal in extra-time to take his personal tally for the match to 8.

The win in golden goal extra time for Turkish side Yildiz Technology University means they win 2 points; however, this wasn’t enough to move up them up the league table.

Kocaeli University – Schweriner KC (10-20)

The final match at the 2024 edition of the Satellite final was between Kocaeli University from Türkiye and the so far undefeated Schweriner from Germany.

Kocaeli encouraged by their victory against Yildiz University on Day two made an encouraging start to the match, after the first Quarter the scores were tied at 4-4. Schweriner gradually grew into the game, showcasing their own attacking ability in the second quarter managing to create a small gap by halftime (6-10).

In the second half Kocaeli came close on several occasions, but ultimately the strength in depth of the Schweriner squad and their greater experience was evident. Schweriner ran out the eventual winners with a convincing and deserved final scoreline 10-20.

The win for Schweriner means they finished the finals unbeaten; they top the table with 9 points and take home the trophy and gold medal.

Day 2 Recap: Satellite Final Heats Up in Antalya

Day 2 of the IKF Champions League Satellite Final saw intense competition and shifting standings in Antalya, Türkiye. We had two more matches today in which the four teams vying for the trophy battled it out in two thrilling matches.

The first match of the day saw Schweriner KC from Germany take on CCCD Carnaxide from Portugal. In a closely contested game, Schweriner KC won with a 22-15 score. Their strong defense and accurate shooting proved too much for Carnaxide, who despite a valiant effort, couldn’t find their rhythm. Schweriner’s No.24 Lucas Witthaus and CCCD Carnaxide’s David FalcÃo shared the honors with 6 goals each.

The second match featured both teams from Türkiye, Yildiz Technical University and Kocaeli University, with both teams seeking their first victory of the final after defeats on day 1. Kocaeli started strong and built a comfortable lead. However, Yildiz University fought back and managed to get within one goal of their opponents in the 35th minute. The final few minutes of the game were tense, with Kocaeli University winning 14-17, securing their first points of the tournament.

Standings Update

With these results, the standings after Day 2 are as follows: Schweriner KC (6 points, 2 wins), CCCD Carnaxide (3 points, 1 win, 1 loss), Kocaeli University SC (3 points, 1 win, 1 loss) and Yildiz Tecnical University (0 points, 2 losses)

Exciting Matches Ahead | What to Watch for on Day 3

With the top three teams separated by just three points, the final day promises even more excitement.

Can Schweriner KC maintain their 100%-win record and secure the trophy? Will CCCD Carnaxide and Kocaeli University SC battle it out for second place? Can Yildiz Technical University find their winning form? Tune in tomorrow for Day 3 of the IKF Champions League Satellite Final and witness the culmination of this thrilling tournament!

Day 1 Recap

The opening day of the IKF Champions League Satellite Final proved to be a challenging one for the Turkish representatives, as both Yildiz University and Kocaeli University fell to defeat in their respective matches.

In the first game of the day, Yıldız Teknik University took on the German powerhouse Schweriner Korfball Club. The Turkish team started brightly, but the Germans soon found their rhythm and began to pull away. By halftime, Schweriner Korfball Club had established a comfortable 6-12 lead.

The second half saw Yildiz University fight back with determination, but they were unable to close the gap. The final score was 22-14 in favor of Schweriner Korfball Club. Schweriner’s Anna Goepfert top scored in the match with 9 goals.

In the second match of the day, Kocaeli University faced off against CCCD Carnaxide from Portugal. The game was a closely contested affair throughout, with both teams exchanging the lead several times. However, CCCD Carnaxide managed to pull ahead in the final minutes with a goal from Catia Correia and a brace from David FalcÃo to secure a 19-16 victory.

There is still plenty of korfball action to come at the Satellite Final over the next few days. IKF Korfball Champions League Round 1 Recap

The first two event of the IKF Korfball Champions League 2023-24 have been played last weekend. 14 teams competed for 2 places in the IKF Korfball Champions League Round 2, and 4 places in the IKF Korfball Champions League Satellite Final.

IKF Korfball Champions League Round 1-A

The IKF KCL R1A took place in Lisbon, Portugal, from 21-23 September. 6 teams competed against each other in a round-robin format. CK Vallparadís from Catalonia and Schweriner KC from Germany won their first three matches and faced each other on the final day, in what was the expected deciding match for the ranking of positions one and two. Schweriner took a four-goal lead, but Vallparadis turned things around and took over the initiative in Q3 with a three-goal gap. Schweriner came close, but Vallparadis secured their win by a very close 15-14 end score. The team ended the tournament with a win over CCCD Carnaxide and thus qualified for the IKF Korfball Champions League Round 2. Schweriner KC and CCCD Carnaxide qualified for the IKF Korfball Champions League Satellite Final by claiming the second and third place. Yildiz Teknik Üniversitelilier became fourth, SJBAGB fifth, and 1908 SZAC Budapest completed the ranking on sixth place.

IKF Korfball Champions League Round 1-B

The IKF KCL R1B took place in Cardiff, Wales, from 22-24 September. 8 teams were present, but Koceali University Sport Club participated out of competition. Unfortunately, they could not get a team complete due to VISA issues. The team’s athletes that travelled to Cardiff were complemented by local players. The teams competed in two groups, advancing from there to the semi-finals, finals and other ranking matches. Group A winner Clube de Corfebol de Oeiras defeated Cardiff City & Met KC (number 2 group B) in the semi-final, where it faced FJEP Bonson. Bonson defeated SKK Prievidza Dolphins (winner Group B) in their semi-final. Clube Corfebol de Oeiras proved to be the strongest competitor in the event, by winning the final 23 to 4. The match for third place decided which team would claim the last qualification spot for the IKF KCL Satellite Final. Cardiff City & Met KC and the Dolphins were a great match for each other, but eventually, the Slovak champion claimed the victory. The ranking was completed by Tornadoes Korfball Club Academy (fifth place), Glasgow Korfball Club (sixth place), and Newport Centurions KC (seventh place).

The IKF Korfball Champions League Round 2 will be organised in Marki, Poland, from 28 November – 2 December. The IKF Korfball Champions League Satellite Final will be organised 18-20 January in Antalya, Türkiye.

LIVE DRAW

The late withdrawal of Kékvölgy SE from Hungary led to a change in the original tournament set-up for the IKF KCL R1A. The teams will play each other in a round-robin format, but the qualification criteria for the successive KCL events remain unchanged.

The live draw for the IKF Korfball Champions League Round 1 took place on July 6. Through this draw, the teams were divided into the two Round 1s, in Cardiff and Lisbon.

Teams were allocated to the events by drawing in pairs. These pairs were based on the IKF Korfball Champions League ranking, which is based on the previous season. Two teams were already placed; Welsh champion Cardiff City Korfball Club and the runner-up Newport Centurions. The Welsh Korfball Association is hosting the event in collaboration with Cardiff City Korfball Club, which was therefore placed in the IKF KCL Round 1-B. To get to 8 teams, Newport Centurions were invited as extra participant and was therefore also placed in the IKF KCL R1B. The two qualified Portuguese teams are both not hosting the event, and are therefore included in the draw instead of having a fixed place in Lisbon.

IKF Korfball Champions League 2023-24, refined set-up & qualified teams

The IKF has launched the refined set-up of the IKF Korfball Champions League. After the inaugural season the IKF EXCO has evaluated the event(s), taking into consideration the feedback of the participating clubs, the national federations, the IKF Officials and the IKF Committees.

The new set-up honours the main goals of the IKF KCL, while adjusting the set-up in such a way that the main feedback point are incorporated. The main goals that form the fundament for the IKF KCL are:

  • Have more competitive matches between clubs of similar level from different countries across the entire European club competitions;
  • Improve quality at all levels;
  • Have a feasible path to winning a title across multiple levels;
  • Have competitive finals (KCL, Challenger, Satellite);
  • Gradually increase the number of club teams from a country that can get European competition at their level.

The main points of feedback from the teams, national federations, officials and IKF Committees were:

  • Lower the costs for teams;
  • Reduce travel for participants – fewer events for individual clubs;
  • Desire to have more certainty around location and timing of events – longer preparation time;
  • Play one match per day and full games;
  • Have fewer events and longer, if necessary;
  • Have fewer matches against the same opponents from previous rounds;
  • Have a ‘more international’ feel in the KCL Final;
  • Have more international experience and enhance social contacts.

These findings led to the following set-up of the IKF Korfball Champions League:

National federations receive the invitation letter and registration form for their qualified teams as soon as possible. The locations of the IKF KCL R1A will be in Lisbon, Portugal, and the R1B in Cardiff, Wales. The location for the IKF KCL R2 is Marki, Poland, and the location for the IKF KCL Satellite Final is Antalya, Türkiye.

IKF Korfball Champions League Final 2022-2023: Live coverage and updates

From 10 to 11 February 2023, the IKF Korfball Champions League Final is taking place in the Dutch city of Delft. The best four korfball clubs in Europe will play to raise the most important European club trophy of this season.

The champions of the Dutch and the Belgian League automatically qualified for the IKF KCL Final (Fortuna/Delta Logistiek and Korfbalclub Floriant Merelbeke), and they are joined by the number 1 and 2 of the IKF KCL R3, which are the Dutch PKC/Vertom and Borgerhout/Groen-Wit KC from Belgium. Previously, 4 qualifying rounds and 2 final events took place to reveal the 4 teams that will play this KCL Final. [Press kit booklet here]

All fans and supporters are welcome to see the matches live at Fortuna Hall (buy tickets), or they can also enjoy the 4 matches scheduled watching the live streams through the Olympic Channel.

The signal will be produced by the IKF and broadcasted live trough the Olympic Channel platform, as part of a collaboration and partnership between these two organisations. The IKF is an international federation officially recognised by the Olympic International Committee, and during the last years, korfball content has been broadcasted several times, specially during the World Games 2017 and 2022. This IKF KCL Final is expected to be the first of many more events and korfball content to be broadcasted during the next years.

Friday’s semi-finals and the game for 3rd place and big final on Saturday will be live-streamed on the following links, with two different signals, so fans can choose between English or Dutch commentary. Don’t miss the special extra content before and after each game, with interviews, analysis, etc… around this exciting final event in Delft. Furthermore, on www.worldkorfball.sport you will be able to watch these live streams next to all the statistics, live results and scorers and play-by-play actions.
