Congratulations to the new 2016 IKF Europa Cup korfball champion: Dutch champion, PKC/SWK Groep.
After a great championship and 3/3 victories, the 1st over the German SG Pegasus (44-13) and the 2nd against the Czech Brno KK (15-40), the Dutch defeated 31-21 its most dangerous rival in the final: the Belgium champion Boeckenberg KC.
The crowd inside the Gabányi László Sportshall in Budapest enjoyed a fantastic 1st half were none of both teams clearly leaded the game. The 16-12 score by the Dutch with 0,6 second to go before the end of the first 25 minutes and the 17-12 within 10 seconds after the start of the 2nd half was a big blow in the Boeckenberg ambitions. In the 2nd half the Dutch were able to open the gap in the scoreboard, arriving at the end of the game with a comfortable and definitive 31-21.
Congratulations again to PKC/SWK Groep players and staff for an excellent tournament, and enjoy the well deserved 50th Alfons Janssens IKF Europa Cup. The 8th IKF Europa Cup for PKC in the history of this event; they are the most successful club team in the IKF history.

Intense, long and exciting 2nd day of competition in this 50th IKF Europa Cup 2016 in Budapest (HUNGARY).
The 1st game between BONSON FJEP (FRA) 17 and UKK WUM Warszawa (POL) 26 was broken very early by the polish team. They open a 1-6 gap in the first ten minutes that remained during the rest of the match. Leaded by Krzysztof Rubinkowski (8) and Kamil Musialinski (7), they brought the UKK WUM Warszawa to the next round and will fight tomorrow for the 9th-10th place against Szentendrei Korfbal Klub (HUN). The 7 goals scored by Ludovic Bancel (FRA) were not enough to reach the polish.
The french team will play this friday vs the 1908 SZAC KSE (HUN) for the 11th-12th place in this IKF ECup 2016, after the exciting last game played between the two hungarian teams, that was decided in favour of the SKK by a golden goal scored by Marta Szuromi (16-17). Ten incredible last minutes in which SZAC almost achieve a big comeback.
In the 2nd game played at 13:10 (CET), Brno KK (CZE) beated the catalan champion CK Assessoria Vallparadis. The czechs played a very tough game, minimizing mistakes and trying to make things very hard for the catalans. The gap after the minute 19 became definitive for the catalans, which make the impossible to reach the czechs. CK Assessoria Vallparadis will play friday and saturday for the 5th-8th place.
Top scorers: Alexis Escardibul Tejeira (6) and Jose Luis Jurado (5) from CK Vallparadis, and Jan Sedy (5) from Brno KK.
The catalans will play against the german SG Pegasus, which make all the best to make some opposition in its game vs the powerful dutch PKC/SWKGroep (44-13). The high quality of the dutch in all the aspects of the game and the high score percentage was enough to obtain the victory. The dutch will play tomorrow against Brno KK (CZE) for a place in the final (1st-4th place). Top scorers: Danny den Dunnen (7), Johannis Schot (6), Nadhie den Dunnen (5) and Suzanne Struik (5).
The game between Boeckenberg KC (BEL) and Marmara University Sport Club (TUR) 28-6 also showed how powerful are the belgian, which will play vs NC Benfica (POR), after defeating the Trojans KC (ENG) by 18-15 in the most balanced game of the tournament so far. Pedro Amaro Correia (POR) became the top scorer of the match with 5 goals, and Nick Janssens with 8 scores and Matthias Demeulder with 6, the MVP’s against Marmara University.

The International Korfball Federation has been informed by the Royal Belgian Korfball Federation KBKB that they will not send a team to next year’s U23 World Korfball Championship in Olomouc, Czech Republic. In a public statement, the KBKB cites a lack of financial resources to send a team at the required level of support and professionalism to the Championship. At the IKF General Meeting in Antwerp last month, the KBKB had already publicly announced that they will not be taking part in all international events in the future.
The IKF Executive Committee will further discuss the matter in its upcoming Exco Meeting, and has hence not yet taken an official position. IKF President Fransoo, who was personally informed by KBKB President Ruts ahead of the public announcement, regrets the decision that the KBKB has taken: “It is especially a severe decision for the Belgian U23 athletes that were so successful last year the European Championship by winning the gold medal. It is sad that the strongest team from the European qualifier will not take part in this U23 WKC. While I appreciate the short-term financial constraints, I do hope that the KBKB is able to increase its level of ambition in attracting financial resources to again take part in all Championships. Athletes at all ages should be given the opportunity to compete with their peers from other countries.”
In advance of the KBKB announcement, the IKF has already contacted the reserve countries to replace the Belgian team. The IKF Executive Committee will also reconsider the draw.

Today we publish the pools and the match schedule for the IKF Europa Shield 2016 in Castrop Rauxel, Germany from Friday 22 till Sunday 24 January 2016.

Belgium will be the world’s hotspot for korfball for the next 10 days, with the 10th IKF World Korfball Championship being hosted in Turnhout-Tielen, Ghent and Antwerp. 16 countries from all five continents have qualified for the Championship, after four regional championships with a total of more than 40 countries taking part.
The Netherlands, who won 8 out of 9 previous World Korfball Championships, are the clear favorite for the title, with Chinese Taipei and host country Belgium the likely contenders for a place in the final. The Belgian national coach Elewaut announced his team is committed the regaining the world title. Belgium won the IKF World Korfball Championship in 1991, coincidentally the last time that the Belgians were the host. The dramatic last few minutes of that match are in the minds of all Dutch and Belgian korfball fans. This year’s final will be played on 8 November at 15:30 CET and will be broadcasted live on multiple TV channels in Europe and Asia. All matches can be watched live at the IKF Channel.
Brazil will make its debut at the IKF World Korfball Championship, and will be the first Latin American country to qualify since Aruba took part in 1991. The full list of countries and the match schedule is available online.
Eight countries at the IKF WKC 2015 will have the opportunity to qualify for The World Games 2017. Poland, as host country of TWG 2017, has qualified automatically. Due to the dominance of European countries in the IKF World Ranking, and the desire to increase the global participation at The World Games, the IKF Council has determined that any non-European country that finishes in the top-11 of this WKC would qualify, with the remaining countries coming from Europe. Currently, 3 non-European countries are ranked in the world’s top-11, being Chinese Taipei (3), Australia (8), and China (10).
Past results and the full history of the previous IKF World Korfball Championships are available in detail, while the current IKF World Korfball Ranking is also available.
