Korfball is growing globally. With close to 70 member countries, korfball is part of many people’s daily lives, and korfball activities take place globally at any time of day. Over the past years, the IKF has built up considerable presence in social and other web media and is one of the most innovative international federations in this domain. Live scoring on worldkorfball.org, casting of IKF events on worldkorfball.org and YouTube, extensive social media coverage of our events on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, a website as a repository of our official documents, and much more.

The IKF would like to further develop its social media and digital presence. For social media we would like more impact during our events, coverage of other events, and more presence in between events. In terms of information provisioning we would like to collect and share more of our data and provide interesting graphs, analyses, and social content. We would like to inform interested korfball fans better and in a more personalized way. We would like more technology support in our competition processes, such as for accreditation. And of course we are interested to further develop the experience of viewers of our webcasts.

For this, we would like to put together a pool of volunteers that can help us. These volunteers can be any of the following (but definitely not limited to this list):

  • Social media writer/producers
  • Video producer, director, etc
  • Social media editors
  • Software developers
  • Data scientists
  • Journalists, interviewers, reporters (social and other electronic media)
  • …. (fill in what you think the IKF and the global korfball community needs)

If you are interested, or if you would like to know more, please send us an email. In the email, at least include:

  • Your name and contact details

Please send your application or expression of interest before 15 March 2018 to the IKF Office: office@ikf.org. For further information contact the IKF CEO Tilbert La Haye: tilbert.la.haye@ikf.org.

Note: This is a call for volunteers. We do not solicit commercial applications for service provisions. Please refrain from developing any commercial proposal based on this text.

IKF U19 Open European Korfball Championship

In a little under two months the 30, 31 March and 1 of April the National U19 teams of Belgium, Brazil, Catalonia, Czech Republic, England, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal and Turkey will face each other at the IKF U19 Open European Korfball Championship 2018 in Friesland, The Netherlands.

This year’s U19 tournament is a special one, while for the first time ever this long existent event has got an official IKF status. In 1996 the former district of the Royal Dutch Korfball Association (KNKV), Friesland, organised an inaugural tournament for U19 players from countries all over the world. The tournament was the idea of the late Jan Hanekroot who was then the IKF Development Officer for England. The first edition involved five countries and was very successful and since then the Junior World Cup, later converted into Korfball World Cup, has grown throughout the years in quantity and quality. A great achievement!

The Netherlands’ representation in the tournament began with a regional Frisian team and was followed in subsequent years by the Junior Talent Team from District North, now named The Netherlands RTC North. Since 2008, the national under 19 squad has been participating in the tournament. In this year’s edition The Netherlands RTC North will complete the participants of the event for the last time. Starting with 2019 only National teams of countries will be allowed to participate.

From now on the former IKF patronaged U19 Korfball World Cup will continue as a biannual IKF U19 (Open) European Korfball Championship altered with a biannual IKF U19 World Korfball Championship. This automatically means that in the future the IKF U19 events are open for bidding for all IKF member countries. Nevertheless, the first IKF U19 World Korfball Championship in 2019 already has been allocated to the Dutch Royal Korfball Federation (KNKV).

The 13 teams of the 2018 edition are divided into three pools. On the first day of the tournament most of the pool matches will be played. The remaining pool matches will be played on the first part of the second day. Later that day the 8 highest placed countries will play the quarter- and semi-finals. While the 5 lowest ranked teams will continue their tournament in a new pool. On the third and last day the final classification will be decided and will it become clear who can call themselves IKF U19 Open European Korfball champions of 2018.

Each match (except the final day) will last two times 15 minutes real playing time with a 4-minute halftime break. If there’s no winner after regular playing time, a golden goal period of 5 minutes will decide who comes out as winner.

Would you like to see the korfball talents of each country live? Visit the event during the Easter weekend at ‘t Kalverdijkje in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands. The first match is scheduled to start at 9:00 AM on the 30th of March. The final match is scheduled to start at 2:45 PM on the 1st of April, after which the medal ceremony will start at 4:00 PM.

Korfball aims for the 2023 Southeast Asian Games in Cambodia

The proposal to organize courses for referees and coaches was mooted by the President of Thailand Korfball Association. For referees and coaches, the IKF level 1 course began on 3 February till 5 February. The aim was enhancing their level and korfball skills.
The event took place at Sports Center of Srinakharinwirot University (SWU).
This event is organized under the close cooperation among IKF Asia, Thailand Korfball Association (TKA), SWU and National Taipei University of Education (NTUE) (Taiwan).
Prof. Inglish YC Huang, IKF Asia President conducted the coach course while Ms. Bird FY Hsieh, IKF Instructor conducted the referee course.

The grand event could be successfully organized with the grant support from Taiwan Sports Administration (Sports Ministry) based on the New Southbound Policy. Prof. Inglish Huang and Ms. Bird Hsieh were able to take 18 elite korfball players of NTUE as teaching assistants to efficiently and effectively enhance participants learning quality.

Apart from the education courses, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Prof. Supranee Kwanboonchan the TKA President and Prof. Inglish Huang, President of IKF Asia, which was witnessed by the participants, sponsors, and media in the morning on 3 February. The objective of this MOU is to state the partnership between TKA and the IKF Asia toward korfball as a sport for all and as an elite sport in Thailand.

Furthermore, the mixed training with the players of NTUE and the players of Thailand U19, U16, and open national squads were done in the evening 4 February.

With the great initiative invitation of Prof. Tuk (well-known nickname of S. Kwanboonchans), these parallel coach and referee courses consisted of 44 and 30 participants respectively from Cambodia, Hong Kong China, Indonesia, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Chinese Taipei and Thailand. This is a record-breaking number of participating countries in an IKF level 1 coach and referee course.

Prof. Tuk, an optimal role model for a leader, who is also the current President of ASEAN Council of Physical Education and Sport. IKF Asia will maintain its close cooperation with Prof. Tuk for spreading korfball not only in Thailand but further in the ASEAN countries by means of her tremendous influential strength.

A feasibly crucial goal is to deliver korfball into the competition programs of 2023 Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games) in Cambodia.

All 69 IKF recognised National Korfball Federations are invited to participate in the next IKF Beach Korfball World Cup (Europe) 2018 that will take place in Blankenberge (Belgium) from 11 to 12 August 2018.

It is up to each National Federation to decide how to select the National Team. This can be done by a standard selection process, but for example also by picking the best (club) team of a National Beach Korfball Championship.

To be able to participate countries must send a complete filled entry form to the IKF no later than 12 March 2018 to officially subscribe for this tournament.
