IKF President in Taipei to discuss korfball opportunities

IKF President Jan Fransoo today met in Taipei ((TPE) with Deputy Sport Minister Wang to pay tribute to the excellent development that korfball has made across the island over the past decades. The IKF President was accompanied by IKF Asia President Ying-Che Huang and CTKA Secretary General Chien-Ting Chen. The visit coincided with Chinese Taipei reaching the second place on the IKF World Ranking for the first time in history following their silver medal at last month’s IKF U23 World Korfball Championship.

Mr Wang continued to pledge full support for the various initiatives of the Chinese Taipei Korfball Association. The IKF President also praised Mr Wang and the present and previous leadership of the CTKA for the tremendous work they are doing to support IKF Asia. Discussions were also held about hosting potential future events in Taiwan.

Subsequently, the IKF President, the IKF Asia President, and the CTKA Secretary General also met with the Chinese Taipei University Sports Federation. Discussions evolved around the participation of Chinese Taipei in the upcoming first FISU World University Korfball Championship in Portugal in 2018, and the prospects of the second FISU World University Korfball Championship in 2020.

 

IKF Asia Korfball Championship 2016

Friday 26 August the 4th IKF Asia Korfball Championship (IKF AKC) start in Jaipur, Rajhastan, India.

IKF Asia and the IKC (interim committee) have done their utmost to organize a good event.

Five teams compete to become the next Asian Korfball Champion.

Chinese Taipei is the defending Asian Korfball Champion.

IKF Level III Youth Camp a great succes

All participants in the IKF Level III Youth Camp finished the camp very successful.

Guided by Mr Ben Crum as project manager the group was very eager to absorb korfball training and coaching knowledge. Ben Crum is a well known Dutch coach with PKC, writer of various korfball training books and IKF Honorary member.

Ben had former Dutch national coach, Mr Jan Sjouke van den Bos to do lectures and sessions during the week as well.

After the presentations all 22 partuicipants showed up for the photo.

All 5 IKF continents were active and represented in the youth camp.

IKF Level III “Youth Coach Camp” join International Week Dordrecht 2015

Some exciting events are underway this week from 16 to 22 August in Dordrecht, the Netherlands. First of all, IKF in liaison with KNKV run the IKF Level III “Youth Coach Camp”. An international group of 22 coaches perform under guidance of current coach of Dutch korfball champion PKC, Mr. Ben Crum. He is appointed as a program manager for this course. Mr. Crum lead a group of prestigious coaches invited to guide the participants in the “Youth coach camp” and learn all about coaching drills at youth level. Amongst this group of tutors, coach of Dutch national team Mr. Wim Scholtmeijer, Mr .Jan Sjouke van den Bos, head of coaches for the KNKV and Mr Detlef Elewaut, coach of Belgium national team, conduct some of the sessions.

During the week several training sessions take place at different Dordrecht clubs featuring local korfballers from 11 to 16 years coming from the clubs: DeetosSnel, Sporting Delta, Movado, Oranje Wit, KC Dordrecht together with some players from KC Barcelona. The training sessions will be useful as a practice for the 22 coaches from 15 different countries representing all five continents. They participate this week in order to obtain the IKF level III diploma for international coaches:

For some years, IKF and KNKV work closely together in order to involve all korfball nations pursuing to raise their level of play.

For that purpose we provide coaches with a complete program for coaching youth teams. This should be planned and executed with accuracy; furthermore the IKF Level III “Youth Coach Camp” is an opportunity to enjoy a unique experience, sharing one week with coaches from all around the world in the excellent environment of one of the greatest korfball cities in the world and hosted by well-known club DeetosSnel. The clubs from Dordrecht opens its doors to an international program for coach education and provide the best facilities to perform during this week.

IKF Asia re-elects Huang and Cheng; korfball4 growing

In Hsinchu (Taiwan), this morning, IKF Asia held its General Meeting following yesterday’s Congress. The continental korfball confederation re-elected Professor Inglish Y.C. Huang (Chinese Taipei) as its President. Huang, who just concluded his first term, will also represent Asia on the IKF Council as Regional Vice-President for Asia. Also Secretary General Warman W.M. Cheng (Hong Kong China) was re-elected in the post of Secretary General. The remaining members of the Executive Committee are Qilin Guo (China, Senior Vice-president), Adelaide Koraag (Indonesia, Vice-president), Dilip Kumar (India, Vice-president), Michael Silbor (Philippines, member) and Yoshimitsu Toshiba (Japan, member).

At the meeting, the member countries reported on the development progress. The rapid progress of korfball4, the recently introduced 4vs4 competition format for smaller venues and outdoor, was remarkable. Chinese Taipei recently held its first national cup tournament in korfball4 and the first Asian U19 and U16 Korfball Championship will be held in Indonesia next month. Further, Macau announced it will start a city league in korfball4, and Hong Kong announced the first inter-school competition in korfball4 for elementary, middle and high schools.

India announced its intention to bid for the next Asian Championship, due to be held in 2016, while China unveiled its plans for an international beach korfball tournament on the Olympic beach in Shandong.

Korfball in Asia is vibrant and developing, while the leadership remains vigilant to address the various concerns in the area.

IKF meets with new korfball leadership in India

The President and Secretary General of the IKF and the President and Secretary General of IKF Asia today met with the leadership of the newly established (interim) Indian Korfball Committee. The Committee will report to the IKF and IKF Asia and govern all matters relating to korfball in India following the suspension of the Korfball Federation of India by the IKF last month.

In the meeting, Mr Dilip Kumar, chairman of IKC, outlined the plans of the IKC to re-establish proper administration of korfball in India to ensure development of the sport within India and representation of India at international championships.

Mr Kumar expressed confidence that within the next period significant progress could be made, initially with matters of governance, allowing development and competition to resume, and subsequently increasing the competitiveness of the Indian national teams.

IKF President Fransoo and IKF Asia President Huang, to whom the IKC will be reporting until the situation has been normalized, expressed their confidence in the full Committee and its plans for the coming period.

Jos van Meersbergen knighted

21 March 2015 Mr Jos VAN MEERSBERGEN (NED) was taken by surprise. The mayor of the city of Schijndel, Mrs.Jetty EUGSTER, showed up in the Dioscuren Sportsvenue and after a speech handed Jos a royal order awarded by the king of the Netherlands.

Jos was given this order for his long lasting work for korfball both national and international; for his club Boemerang and for the U17 Korfball World Cup. His determination and ongoing commitment to the U17 KWC developed this annual youth event as the most important U16 and now U17 korfball event in the world.

The IKF Council gratulates Jos VAN MEERSBERGEN with this well deserved distinction and hopes he will continue many more years in good health with the U17 KWC.

IKF anti-doping rules in line with 2015 code

The IKF is on the list of International Federations published by WADA that the IKF anti-doping rules are in line with the 2015 World Anti-Doping Code.

The IKF has drafted and submitted to WADA the revised IKF anti-doping rules some months ago.

WADA is the World Anti-Doping Agency.
