In preparation for the highly anticipated IKF European Korfball Championship A-Division 2024, IKF Secretary General and CEO, Joana Faria, visited Catalonia for a series of key venue inspections and strategic meetings.
During her visit, Ms Faria met at the host city town hall with Mr Jordi Soler Casals, Mayor of Calonge i Sant Antoni, to discuss the town’s readiness to host the event. The meeting also focused on local infrastructure, logistical support, and the broader impact the championship will have on the region.
Additionally, Ms Faria held talks with the Federació Catalana de Korfbal, ensuring the alignment of local and international efforts to deliver a great event. The meeting included discussions on promoting korfball in the region, facilitating athlete and fan engagement, and coordinating efforts for a seamless tournament experience.
The Local Organising Committee also joined the venue inspections, working closely with Ms Faria to review the facilities and ensure they meet IKF standards for hosting an international championship. The inspections covered key areas such as spectator capacity, athlete accommodations, and media facilities.

Ten teams have been competing in Catalonia from 29 to 31 March for the IKF U19 (Open) European Korfball Championship 2024 trophy. Netherlands, Belgium, Czechia, England, Catalonia, Slovakia, Portugal, Germany, France and Hong Kong China were the participants, and one team has been playing at another level during all its matches: The Netherlands.
In today’s final against the unbeaten powerful Belgium, the Dutch players were able to perform a very good game again! Despite the strong resitance, the Dutch won 14 to 8 in the end and rightly became champions.
Czechia and England played for Bronze in the previous game, in which the Czechs never let the game out of their hands and deservedly won the bronze medal in the end (CZE 21-6 ENG).
Thanks to the Catalan Korfball Federation for organising such a wonderful tournament, and to all teams, players, coaches, managers, officials and most importantly, the volunteers, for all their hard and good work and friendship. This is korfball!

This last IKF U21 European Korfball Championship 2022 will be remembered by all fans after an intense and exciting 3-day tournament in the Catalan city of Terrassa.
The competition format with only 6 teams allowed all squads to play between all them in a unique league. And after day 1 it was clear that the Netherlands and Belgium will be the ones to fight for gold, but the level of both squads was really close and that fact guaranteed an exciting and tight final, as it was in the end. One last goal with 45″ left was decisive to proclaim the Dutch team the new U21 European korfball champion.

The battle for 3rd place was also one of the best attractions of the tournament, with 4 other nationals teams competing very closely and delivering intense, tight and exciting matches. A great spectacle for all korfball fans that attended Can Jofresa’s Sport Complex everyday, and for all those watching the live streams through www.worldkorfball.sportannd youtube.com/ikfchannel.
Catalonia was the final winner of this particular fight for the Bronze medal, after beating Portugal at the end of day 2 by 9-8, and be able to win all their matches, except those against BEL and NED, including the last one on day 3 vs Hungary (15-9). A perfect ending for an extraordinary and historical tournament for the Catalans.
This result forced Germany and Portugal to play on day 3 a decisive final match for 4th place: another great and tight game (16-16) decided by penalties in favour of the Portuguese squad after an exciting golden goal period with no scoring..
The IKF wants to thank all volunteers, teams and organisers for their huge efforts, making this tournament a great and successful event. Korfball is more alive than ever!
