Korfball Indonesia united

The International Korfball Federation is pleased to take notice of the agreement between the two korfball factions in Indonesia to unite in a single Indonesian National Korfball Association PKSI. The IKF President has subsequently recognized Ms Lisa Roedhianita as President of the PKSI and revoked any earlier decisions on the matter. It also implies that from now on, the PKSI can again represent Indonesia under the leadership of President Roedhianita.

The agreement is important, since korfball is a rapidly growing sport in Indonesia, and has received full recognition by the National Olympic Committee KOI and the National Sports Council KONI. As part of this agreement, korfball has been included in the Indonesian national games, in which all provinces of the country compete in a large number of sports.

IKF Open European Beach Korfball Championship 2017

The IKF is proud to announce its first ever beach korfball tournament:  ‘IKF Open European Beach Korfball Championship 2017’! The event will take place in the weekend of 19 and 20 August 2017 and will be held in The Hague, The Netherlands. The organiser is the Royal Dutch Korfball Association (KNKV).

Beach korfball is already played in multiple countries in all continents around the world. It has a different lifestyle approach and is especially popular with the younger age groups. Therefore IKF is convinced that beach korfball helps to invest in the future of korfball. To point out this important role in development, the tournament in The Hague will consist both of a Senior and an Under 19 category.

With only four players needed to form a team, instead of eight in regular korfball, IKF is aiming to make it easier for national associations to initiate new korfball activities and reach new players. On the competition level IKF believes to create more equality between the teams and lower costs for national associations by having less athletes involved and using a short tournament format.

The venue of the tournament will be ‘The Hague Beach Stadium’. This unique accommodation is located directly on The Hague Beach and has all the necessary requirements for hosting a top beach sport event. The spectacular location at the waterside is perfect to host multiple side events and really involve korfball fans and visitors with the event. With the track record of the KNKV in organising events, the IKF Open European Beach Korfball Championship 2017 can only end up being a success!

UKK WUM Warszawa and 1908 SZAC Budapest banned from international competition next year

Following the late withdrawal of UKK WUM Warszawa at this years IKF Europa Cup final round and 1908 SZAC Budapest at the IKF Europa Shield the IKF Executive Committee has decided that both clubs will not be allowed to represent their country in next years IKF Europa Cup or IKF Europa Shield. The clubs have been banned to take part in any IKF event until 1 July 2018.

Furthermore, a fine has been imposed upon the Polish Korfball Federation (PZKorf) and Hungarian Korfball Association (HKA) of 1,000 euros in line with the IKF disciplinary procedures 2015. Under the IKF Regulations, a national federation is responsible for any acts of its members with regard to IKF competitions.

This decision follows the stricter line that was announced clearly during last IKF Congress in 2015, Antwerp (Belgium). Late withdrawals leave the IKF and Local Organiser Committee with both organisational and financial problems. Apart from the negative publicity for the specific tournament and korfball in general.

THE WORLD GAMES 2017 POOL DRAW

During the International Korfball Federation Executive Committee meeting on 14 January 2017, the IKF Exco made a draw to establish the pools for the World Games Korfball Event to be held from 21 to 25 July 2017 in Wroclaw, Poland.

The World Games is the most important korfball event in the IKF’s 2017 calendar.

The result of the draw is:

POOL A POOL B
1. The Netherlands Chinese Taipei
2. Belgium Great Britain
3. China Germany
4. Australia Poland

The teams in all four lines were drawn with each set of two teams based on the IKF Ranking from 1 January 2017; CLICK HERE.

Worthwhile to mention, the eternal rivals The Netherlands and Belgium will already meet in the pool phase.

The Netherlands is the current holder of the World Games Korfball title following the last event held in Cali, Colombia in 2013.

The IKF will publish the match schedule for this World Games Korfball event before 15 May 2017.
