IKF Asia-Oceania Korfball Championship allocated to Korfball Association of Thailand

The IKF Council is happy to announce the host, location and dates for the IKF Asia-Oceania Korfball Championship 2022. The hosting of this event has been awarded to the Korfball Association of Thailand (KAT). The KAT became an official IKF Member in 2019, and has shown tremendous development of korfball in Thailand in recent years, despite the challenging circumstances due to the pandemic. Their efforts to promote and develop korfball in Thailand lead to the awarding of the IKF World Korfball Award – Best Grassroots Development in 2019.

The IKF Council is confident that KAT will do a great job hosting the 11th edition of the IKF Asia-Oceania Korfball Championship 2022. The event will be held in Pattaya City, in the Chonburi Province, from 28 November – 4 December.

All National Federations from Asia and Oceania will receive the invitation letter and entry forms for this event later this week.

All updates of the IKF Asia-Oceania Korfball Championship 2022 will be published on the event page.

IKF Open Call – IKF Coordinating Officer

The International Korfball Federation is looking for Coordinating Officers for IKF Events. The IKF aims to spread korfball around the globe and help its 69 member countries to develop korfball on both an elite- and grassroots level. The IKF Events play a big part in this aim, and the IKF is offering an exciting position in the organisation of these events for korfball enthusiasts.

Information about the position can be found here.

The application form can be found here.

The deadline to apply is 31 May 2022.

The IKF encourages anyone interested and capable to apply. If you know someone in your network that would fit the description, please don’t hesitate to refer the position to them. For more details of the IKF organisational structure, please see the IKF Organisation Chart.

IKF Playing Rules 2022

The IKF Playing Rules Committee has published the IKF Playing Rules 2022, which can be found here.

Two years after the last update to “The Rules of Korfball”, most of the feedback received about the changes made has been very positive. The simple presentation of the rules was appreciated, as well as the elimination of rules that no longer made sense in the context of modern korfball. Therefore, there are just some minor adjustments to the published text this year, without changing any rules or game regulations except the one mentioned below.

Due to the experiments conducted in Belgium, Czech Republic, England, Hong Kong China, and The Netherlands during national competitions, the IKF has decided to make a change in the way korfball matches are conducted. To improve the quality of the game and to facilitate the refereeing, after receiving very positive reports of the experiments made, it was decided that from the 1st of September onwards, instead of having one referee and one assistant referee, the matches will be conducted by two referees with the same power and duties in the match.

IKF Open Call – Committee Vacancies

The big final will be played by the Netherlands and Belgium this Sunday, April 17, at 15:00, following the Bronze medal game between Germany and Chinese Taipei at 13:30. These last two teams had to play very hard on their quarter-final matches this morning.

England faced Germany in the best way possible and they fighted until the end trying to reach a place in one of the semi-finals. On the other hand, the big surprise was the endurance and resilience of the Catalan team against the Chinese Taipei squad during the whole match. It was not an easy win for the Asians, but a great game for all spectators who attended this game on hall 2.

The two evening semi-finals were very different. The Dutch team defeated Germany very easily from the very beginning. And today’s last game between the Belgian and Chinese Taipei became one of the best games of the championship so far. Intensity, lots of goals, emotion, passion, good korfball actions and all the things we love in such an important and decisive duels like this.

The Round Robin for places 9-13 started today with several interesting matches. This is a full and intense competition between Slovakia, Malaysia, Hungary, Poland and Morocco that will be decided tomorrow morning.

We invite you continue following this fantastic tournament. All supporters and visitors are welcome to enjoy live this event at the sports hall following all the hygienic and local protocols. IKF lift suspension of the Korfball Federation of India

The Council of the International Korfball Federation has decided to lift the suspension of the Korfball Federation of India (KFI) with immediate effect. The decision follows extensive reforms that have taken place in the governance of the KFI, and these governance changes have been found to be in line with the requirement of the IKF and the Sports Code of India.

The KFI was suspended by the General Meeting of the IKF in November 2015 following extensive governance problems in the longest-playing korfball country in Asia. In the new governance structure, active korfball athletes are now at the heart of governance, with only states that actively develop korfball now eligible to retain their right to vote in the KFI General Meeting. Further, the voting powers of all others, such as Founder Members, have been removed.

President Mishra of the KFI has committed himself to now focusing on korfball development in the South Asian nation. IKF President Fransoo and IKF Asia President Huang wish Mr Mishra every success in his endeavours and hope to see India develop competitively such that it can reach a top-10 position in the world again. Until 20 years ago, India was among the ten strongest countries in the world when governance problems started to hamper the development of the mixed-gender team sport.
